We're not sure if he'll ever don Spider-Man's tights again but star Tobey Maguire does have a new comic adaptation on the horizon, says the Hollywood Reporter. The actor is set to team up with producer Neal Moritz and bring Afterburn to the big screen, which is based on the Red 5 Comics series. Maguire will also have a hand in production through his shingle Maguire Entertainment alongside Moritz through his Original Films. Production rights go through Ryan Kavanaugh's Relativity Media.

Plot Concept: The story
is a sci-fi adventure set against the backdrop of a postapocalyptic Earth, whose Eastern Hemisphere was destroyed by a massive solar flare, leaving what life remains mutated from radiation and fallout. The story revolves around a group of treasure hunters who for the right price extract such objects as the Mona Lisa, the Rosetta Stone and the Crown Jewels while facing rival hunters, mutants and pirates along the way.

Although this seems interesting, television show interesing, Tobey Maguire should do a film version of the Sci-fi novel Sunstroke by David Kagan. It is about a giant orbital satellite dish designed to bring more light to the planet to help grow more crops...giving Earth an artifical second sun...the dish, reflecting the sun's light back to Earth.

Well, scientists lose control of the satellite and it begins to scorch the Earth-Think "The Day After Tomorrow" meets "Deep Impact". The scary thing about this book, it's actually based on a real plan by the Russians to put such a satellite up in orbit and the fears of scientists that it could malfunction and wreak havoc on the planet.

Hey, Metalwater:

Like your film reviews, they really resonate with me.

Agree with you the Sunstroke novel by David Kagan would make a terrific SF blockbuster film. Heard Kagan numerous times guesting on Art Bell's "Coast-to-Coast AM" radio show, the same program that William Shatner guested on two weeks ago. Your screenplay adaptation will work well, although I prefer microwave power-beaming like in the book, and what the Pentagon plans to do.

You should really show your screenplay to a number of SF producers (J.J. Abrams as well); they'll probably jump on it. Regarding an option-- Kagan's literary agent is Nancy Love, head of the Nancy Love Literary Agency in NY (her name is on the dedication page at the beginning of the Sunstroke book). No doubt she has many contacts and will help. Google her.

Looking forward to seeing the Sunstroke movie in the theater.

Cheers!

Shannon
