Toby Maguire done with "Spider-Man"?

Tobey Maguire has made it known recently that he may be done playing Spider-Man on the big screen.

He says, "This might be a good place to stop--I am not tied contractually to anymore Spider-Man movies.

Maguire recently became a dad and wants to spend more time with his new daughter, Ruby.

"I am not completely closed to the idea of another one if it made sense but I would say the odds were in favor of this being the last one."

Maguire's costar and onscreen love interest Kirsten Dunst has also hinted she's keen to ditch the series so she can take up art instead.

Dunst was quoted saying, "I'm not the type of actress who does movie after movie."

This could be a case of actors and actresses posturing in order to secure a huge payday for another film ... or they could be serious.  Time will tell.

I'd say it was a combo of posturing and waiting to see how well #3 does. If it does well they can demand more loot for the next one on a per film contract. If it blows they can walk away gracefully with no obligation.

I am sure we will see him again with the spidy suit. Just question of time, Now his on the pic of the glory and he want spend some times with familly, but wait a while. When he will be away from the spotlight he will beg to return to the role.....

I dunno..... he may be ready to walk away... he is not a huge fan of comics or Spidey... this is just another role to him. I'm sure if the money was there he would concider but time will tell. The real hope is that if he and KD do leave, they can find suitable replacements for any additional films, and that it works seemlessly.

It does not matter really. They can recast with little problems if done right. Look at Bond. They could do a more mature Spider-man and Mary Jane (if not dead).

I don't see a problem with recasting the two leads; just keep the supporting actors the same to have some continuity. If SM3 doesn't have a cliffhanger ending and the plotlines are neatly tied up, I believe Raimi, Maguire and Dunst will walk away. That's ok, they have put together an amazing trilogy. I don't believe people went to see the films because of the director or actors; they went to the theater in droves because it was Spider-Man! The characters are bigger than their actors. The actors and crew have given so much of their lives to Spider-Man in the last few years that I can't blame them for wanting to move on creatively. They've probably all got enough money to do whatever they want for the rest of their lives. I say we wish them "fair winds and following seas" and say thanks for bringing the characters to life for us.

I am certain we'll see both Dunst and MaGuire back in Spidey 4. I think Spidey 3 will be a big enough hit that Sony will break out the checkbooks and pay what it takes to get them back for one more film. Then I think we'll see at least one of them back for Spidey 5. By the time 5 comes around I'm sure one of them will say "No", and Sony will be so determined to keep the other that they'll do what it takes. I could be wrong, but that's what I see happening. Eventually both roles will be recast. It happens. Toby MaGuire is not Spider-Man. He's simply an actor playing a role much bigger then he is. Spidey's been around a lot longer then Toby MaGuire, and he'll survive without Toby.

The only real concern is the quality of the acting the potential next Peter Parker will possess. One of the things that made Tobey so good as Parker was his ability to carry the emotional aspects of the character without appearing to be corny...

At the Comic Con this year year he was pretty Gung ho about further movies. I think this is posturing.

They also showed a rough draft teaser that has Venom in it at the very end. It was on Youtube for a while but Sony made them take it down.

You could probably still find it with a google video search.
