TOKYOPOP New Manga Licenses
Date: Monday, July 18, 2005TOKYOPOP had a number of panels at SDCC this year but an unfortunate name for their main panel and a listing that reads as follows: " Representatives from TOKYOPOP, the leading English-language publisher of manga in the world, will fill you in on the inner workings of the fastest-growing segment in the publishing industry. Panelists include editors Luis Reyes, Rob Valois, Lillian Diaz-Przybyl, and Bryce Coleman and marketing reps Jonathan Chen and Candice Uyloan. Editors will also introduce fans to new original manga, including Sokora Refugees, MBQ, I Luv Halloween, and PSY*COMM. Room 2", well, that meant that we didn't hit that panel since it looked to be all about their MIC (manga influenced comics) releases and we simply don't cover that here. According, most likely unofficially, by Peter Ahlstrom of TOKYOPOP, "[we announce] (and making no marketing distinctions between) licensed and original titles at the same panel." Unfortunately, the market and its readers do.
