TOKYOPOP Talks
By: Chris BeveridgeDate: Monday, October 13, 2008
TOKYOPOP's Associate Publisher Marco Pavia has had an interview with the folks at ICv2 about their view of the state of the market and things have calmed down a bit since their intial flurry of issues several months back. Now claiming to be profitable and growing, pursuing new licenses and reworking their schedule, TOKYOPOP is finally starting to allay some of the fears that they had fanned early on. Discussions about the cancellation of titles was turned to, "Just to be clear (I know there have been a lot of Internet rumors), we have not cancelled any series; we’ve really just adjusted the release pattern of certain series." For some, the change of a book to a once or twice a year release could cause the sale to be lost entirely, which in the long run almost effectively kills it. That said, TOKYOPOP is still looking to keep to its 25 books or so a month release pattern through 2009 so titles will be fighting for their scheduling space.
