As rumored for sometime, Tom Cruise is poised to return to the realm of sci-fi. The actor's name has been mentioned attached to Joseph Kosinksi's project, Oblivion (formerly Horizons), for sometime but the project has been in turnaround with Walt Disney deciding to drop it a few months back. Well, it seems that Universal Pictures is prepared to give the $100 million budget a chance and they have confirmed their lead star in Cruise boarding the production. Aimed at the PG-13 audience, the film will begin shooting in October under the lensing eye of director Kosinski (Tron: Legacy). Writers William Monahan and Karl Gajdusek penned the screenplay.
Plot Concept: In a future where the Earth's surface has been irradiated beyond recognition, the remnants of humanity live above the clouds, safe from the brutal alien Scavengers that stalk the ruins. But when surface drone repairman Jak discovers a mysterious woman in a crash-landed pod, it sets off an unstoppable chain of events that will force him to question everything he knows.
Thanks to Chopsaki for the submission.
Not to excited about Nutjob Cruise attached to this one but the story at least sounds interesting.
