Tom Cruise still in IRON MAN?

Scooper Shan wrote me today from the Comic Con with a scoop regarding the possibility of Tom Cruise still being involved in IRON MAN.

Shan wrote:

Hey Guys,

I was at Comic Con on Saturday for the MARVEL Panel. I might even have a scoop for you that WASN'T announced from anyone on the panel. I sat a row behind two of the guys from Paramount - I knew they were from Paramount because they had call sheets, or itineraries of the panel, with Paramount logos all over them and kept mentioning 'the time''.

There was a woman too - and they were talking amongst themselves once the IRON MAN stuff got underway. All I heard was this "I believe Tom Cruise has got it in the bag, yeah". That's what one of them said to the other. I swear. I remember Cruise rumors a few years back about this, but didn't know he still in the mix? I don't know how much these people would know, but I think it's still very interesting nonetheless.

Shan.

Well there you have it! Could Cruise still be involved? If it means anything, Shan is a constant scooper for Cinescape, and not just a random bird flying around my apartment!

Favreau has said that he is looking for a relative unknown for the part, but time will tell. Thanks Shan for the heads up!

There's a kick of "relative unknowns" flying around Hollywood these days. It's only worked with a few films. After Mission: Impossible III, I think Tom Cruise has become a "relative unknown". So, maybe Jon Favreau should just go ahead and cast him as Tony Stark. Give Tom a chance to be known better by us. ;)

I only hope that his Iron Man Suit will be equipped with High Heels, to make him look taller :D

I disagree. He's relatively "too known." I honestly do not want to see his overexposed face and whatnot. Since he recently had a baby, now is the time to drop out of sight and just be a full-time dad.

Oh come on, now I know M.I.3 wasn't that good and neither was WOTW, and he's gone a little more nuts in his personal life and.. kind of forgot where I was going with this. Oh yeah, Cruise is still very much an A-list actor. He`s still one of the best. He could play Tony Stark, but I think Favreau should get an unknown. There is too much that comes with Tom Cruise. The budget would have to go up by like 25 or 30 million, and then he would want to produce it. The script would change like 50 times, until he was absolutely happy with it, before filming even started.

This is Favreau first large budget flick. It`s a bad idea.

Please, God of Scientology... hear our prayers and get Tommy off the planet ASAP. At least don't let him be in this film.

Tom Screwball has been the kiss of death to nearly every movie he's ever done. But, ultimately it's the directors call who he wants to star. I don't see Marvel going for it, his fee would be a budget buster.

Dragon, what are you talking about? Now I'm no fan of Couch Jumping Cucoo Tom Cruise and I think he'd be a horrible choice for Iron Man, but he's far from the kiss of death. MI:3 - 373 million worldwide. War of the Worlds - 591 million worldwide. Collateral - 217 million worldwide. The Last Samurai - 456 million worldwide. Minority Report - 358 million worldwide. Now, unless your term "kiss of death" means "box office gold" you don't know what you're talking about.

Adding Cruise only adds more money (for Tomt's over the top salaries) and production difficulties because Cruise's team likes to be involved in every avenue of the film. Get an unknown, or at least a "name" actor without Cruise's clout.

(adding to codenamev's) Please Xenu, use your volcano powers and stop the uber-narcissist wacko from being part of this film. The power of thetans compels you!
I am so sick of this asshat. The movie would be overshadowed by his ridiculous antics and his phantom baby. NO TOM CRUISE!
