Tom Derenick draws SUPERMAN

Tom Derenick is drawing upcoming Superman titles at DC Comics, the artist says.
"I can't say what issues yet but I have a SUPERMAN issue coming up pretty soon with Chuck Austen and a MAN OF STEEL issue with Geoff Johns," Derenick says. "I'm working with two of the best guys in the business on the best known comic-book character in history and I'm as excited as hell.
When I got the scripts I was floored. Chuck's was very action oriented and very moving all at the same time and Geoff's is just downright bizarre and funky cool. In both books Superman does several things I've never seen him do before. It's very surprising and a bit jarring but very interesting. I couldn't ask for better guys to work with on these books."
Derenick, whose recent credits include NIGHTSIDE and an upcoming WOLVERINE/CAPTAIN AMERICA mini-series for Marvel, provided a sketch of Superman he did for editor Eddie Berganza to give an idea of what his interpretation of the character would be.
"I like the more classic look to Superman and although I add a lot of modern linework to my art, I think it will reflect that quite a bit," Derenick says. "The biggest thing about him is that no matter what he does he should look powerful. He's Superman for crying out loud and you should get the impression that he could stop a speeding train if he had to. But at the same time I don't want him to look like the Hulk either, so I've settled on a happy medium."
