Tommy Lee Jones Talks New TWO FACE

By: Jarrod Sarafin, News Editor

Since MTV asked the legendary actor Jack Nicholson on his take of a new Joker and got the eye-catching furious headline, it was only a matter of time before they asked other actors from the pre-Nolan Batman films their take on being replaced. Actually, it took only a day for them to catch up with Tommy Lee Jones and ask his opinion on a new Harvey Dent character being portrayed by Aaron Eckhart.

Tommy didn't respond in the same tone as Nicholson on being replaced in this latest version of the DARK KNIGHT. In fact, he's all for it having worked with Eckhart before. Here's what he told MTV;

“Really?” Tommy Lee Jones said over the weekend, when told that Harvey “Two-Face” Dent was appearing in next July’s Batman sequel “The Dark Knight.” “I thought he died.”

“Oh,” the Oscar winner replied, insisting that he hadn’t heard the casting news. “I didn’t know that.”

“But yeah, he’s a good guy,” Jones said of Eckhart’s selection as his successor. “I’ve worked with him. He’s an awfully good guy.”

Contrary to the opinion of Nicholson, Jones is content to dismiss his brief “Batman” career. Largely considered the film that began a slow, painful, camp-fueled death for the black-suited superhero (with “Batman and Robin” marking the final nail in that coffin), the “Forever” villains are often listed among the worst comic-book performances of all time.

Asked bluntly whether he would’ve liked to play Two-Face again, Tommy Lee Jones offered a stiff, one-word response: “No.”

“Aaron is a good actor,” said Jones, declining the opportunity to offer his “The Missing” co-star any advice. “He can take care of himself.”

“That make-up, however, is difficult,” he said, offering a rare grin.

THE DARK KNIGHT hits theaters July 18, 2008.

Being a fan of Jones in general I must say that that(Two Face) was one of the few mistakes he has made along his great career. He's still classy.

It kills me that these actors don't know they started over.

What? No mention of the original Two Face (uh I mean Harvey Dent), BILLY -D!
I couldn't agree with you more Wiseguy562.
Love Tommy Lee jones, Hated his version of the Joker, uh I mean Two Face in Forever.
They probably don't know about th re launch, because despite being in "The ALL-Important Industry" they have lives, unlike all the "Industry Experts" on this site. (That snipe was not directed at you Almostunbiast, just at all of the "industry insiders" on this site.

Yeah, I'll never forgive Joel Schumacher for what he did to Two Face. Tommy Lee Jones must have collected a nice paycheck.

As a kid, I was seriously bummed out when I learned that Billy Dee Williams wouldn't be playing Two Face.

I`m really curious to know how the casting of Billy Dee came about in the first place. Was Burton a fan of Williams? Did the execs think that they needed a little more "color" in the movie? Even in 1989, Billy Dee wasn't a very big name. I know Tim likes to do things his way, but why Billy Dee. It just strikes me as a strange casting choice.
Anyway, I like Tommy Lee Jones, but his version of Two-Face was just horrible. That whole movie was just bad and I`m so glad they rebooted the franchise.

The only good character in the second two Batman movies was Jim Carrey's The Riddler. I thought he was very good at playing that role. I did like Val Kilmer as Batman, but it just wasn't the same. To me, Batman Forever had the best line in any Batman. When they get to the Riddler's Island, and Robin says, " Holy Rusted Metal Batman", and Batman respnds, "Huh?",,,and Robin says, "The Island is metal, and it has holes in it!!",,,,,,great throw-back to the 60's show.

Ya know, Ponyboy; I've never thought of Billy D's casting in such a way, but now I kind of have to. It was a little random.

Perhaps Burton hired him because instead of a paycheck, Billy D offered to do the role for a few bottles of Colt 45. I'm just throwin' out ideas.

Though I really like Tommy Lee Jones, I have to concur that his Two-Face was more reminiscant of Ceasar Romero's Joker. Pretty awful, campy stuff. Though that face used to give me nightmares as a child. The made-up half was pretty creepy back then, too.

That's cool Tommy Lee Jones didn't gripe about not being asked to reprise the role of Two-Face, let alone, be in the next BATMAN film...Jones is very classy guy and a great actor...

I'm inclined to believe it was the paycheck that lured Jones to do Batman Forever, respectively, considering it was the mid-90's and Jones was clearly at the height of his fame (having won an academy award for best supporting actor in The Fugitive), it was like; All of a sudden, Jones was in so many movies, respectively...Nothing personal, but I couldn't picture "Lando Calrissian" as Two-Face...Respectively to Billy Dee Williams.

Billy Dee was chosen for Harvey Dent for much the same reason he was chosen for
Lando: he was, at the time, the go-to Black
male actor. Even though it was the late 80's and Billy Dee was clearly past his prime,
they wanted to avoid the "why-aren't-there-
any-Black-people-in-this-movie" criticism that
had dogged so many other high profile films.
Ridiculous as that may sound, we all know that studio heads and producers entertain
those notions. Think about it: Morgan Freeman in "Robin Hood". . .Ouch.

Morgan Freeman worked well in "ROBIN HOOD". The idea was to bring something new to the table..."edutainment". Ignorance is why many don't understand the historical influence of black people...No, ass, they didn't do everything...just more than you believe. Most think they stayed in Africa until someone came and "gave them a boat ride."

Billy Dee was chosen because the public perception of him as suave and intelligent fit the character of Dent. Thus, the transformation to Two-Face would have been more jarring
