It seems that the rumored Alien prequel is indeed moving forward with 20th Century Fox and ScottFree productions locking in a director this week. Just a few days after the horror experts over at Bloody Disgusting reported that commercial director Carl Rinsch was tasked with helming the Fox prequel,  Frosty over at Collider cornered Tony Scott at the press junket for The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3.

Scott confirmed that Rinsch, someone within the Scott brothers' inner circle, will be directing the project set to begin shooting before the end of the year.

Tony Scott: Yes, Carl Rinsch is going to do the prequel to Alien. He’s one of our directors at our company.

For his part, Frosty didn't hold back from raising some of the doubts fans have been expressing in the online community this week. To check out what he asked Tony Scott about the prequel and its current status, click here.

Let me just say, HELL FREACKING YES! I wonder if Ridley is going to be involved in some capacity. But I'm down for a prequel big time, especially if they go for the feel of the original or Cameron's and don't screw up continuity.

I hear what the guys are saying about Fox, definitely not the artist friendly studio but they haven't given Cameron any problems with Avatar whose budget is rumored to be around 250-300  mil so far./ I know it's Cameron but maybe they're learning their lesson, stop effing with the creators.

I dont see how Ridley could be involved since she had no prior contact with the species when she was on the Nostromo.   No doubt there will be Weyland/Yutani involvement though.  Would be interesting if they show how the ship came to crash on LV426.

Ridley's definitely involved as is his production partner/brother, Tony Scott. Ridley has been talking about exploring the tale behind the alien pilot we see in the original film for a few years now. While this prequel's story hasn't been confirmed yet, it's a good bet that's going to be the direction they take with the story.

How the alien egg transport crashed and why it's there on LV426.

Thanks for clarifying for me Jarrod. Funny but easy mistake by trooper.

I figured Ridley would be a producer, which can mean heavily invloved or almost none at all. I was wondering more about artistically involved, story, etc.

Troopershades, I think you meant 'Ripley', not Ridley.  Ridley Scott was the director of Alien.  Ripley is Sigourney Weaver's character.

Yeah I'm on boad for long as Scott is associated with the project it would be cool......I hope they base it on one or at the most two aliens.... they should have the sme dark look like in the first one.....not the way they changed in 3 and 4.......

Ladies & gentlemen you may now add Carl Rinsch to the following list of directors.  David Fincher, Jean Pierre Jeunet, Jonathan Mostow and McG.  What do all these people have in common?  They've failed miserably after attempting anything after James Cameron.

Predator29_home 5/29/2009 6:32:24 PM

Jesus its Ripley, not Ridley, anyway she isn't in it this is going to show where the Aliens come from and how they got there.

I'm all for it. Let's talk space Jockey! Lets makes this a freakin rated R film, please.
R = Fantastic ratings. With the exception of Aliens... hold on, I have something girgling in my Stomach...Aliens th... three .....there I said it.... Blaahhhhhhh ggggarggg. Oh god I didn't make it that time, sorry guys. Saying it just upsets my stomach. Sorry.

Anyway prequel sounds good. Thing is I already have it in my mindseye and my mindseye doesnt involve humans at all. It takes place on the Alien home planet and its between the space Jockey's race (even though they are most definitely related genetically to the xenomorph) and the Aliens. Thats it!!! I wrote a short story on this by the way. Knowing them though, humans are involved blah blah blah I just hope they come thru either way.
