TOP 10: 50 FIRST DATES kisses audiences
By: Patrick SauriolDate: Sunday, February 15, 2004
Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore's latest romantic comedy felt the love at the box office this weekend as 50 FIRST DATES reached the top spot. The Columbia Pictures film took in an impressive $41 million dollars, the second highest opening for a movie released in February ever.
Last week's number one, BARBERSHOP 2, went down to second spot but is still making decent bank with $15 M. THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT is still floating up in the top five and has now made $50 M and can be considered a resounding success. By comparison, New Line's new release, HIGHWAYMEN, was released this week to only 111 locations, resulting in $203,000 in ticket sales. Folks, that's what they call being dumped on Valentine's Day.
Tomorrow is President's Day and as such the four-day long weekend (for some of us) may elevate the box office to greater heights. Final results will be issued on Tuesday and we'll let you know how things turned out.
Here are the estimated box office receipts of the top ten films from February 13 through to February 15, with their weekend gross and the movie's total domestic gross to date:
1. 50 FIRST DATES $41,000,000 $41,000,000
