TOP 10: Another SCARY weekend
By: Patrick SauriolDate: Sunday, November 02, 2003
Dimension Films took the top treat this past Halloween weekend as SCARY MOVIE 3 held the number one spot at the box office again. In its second weekend of release the sequel scored $21.1 million dollars, bringing its total take to over $78 M in just ten days. The second sequel has now earned more money than SCARY MOVIE 2 did during its entire theatrical run.
Disney's new animated film BROTHER BEAR had a terrific opening weekend considering that the movie didn't have a traditional Friday night opening. Instead, the studio avoided competition with Halloween and opened the film on the Saturday, turning a liability into an advantage. With a gross of $18.5 M over just two days, Disney execs have nothing to frown over.
THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE also managed to capitalize on the holiday, netting nearly $11 M more. As we now head into the holiday movie season, the grosses should start to climb. Up first is this coming Wednesday's release of THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS. Will the third MATRIX movie come close or break the $91 M opening weekend of THE MATRIX RELOADED last May? The buzz for REVOLUTIONS doesn't appear to be anywhere as close to the near-feverish pre-buzz that RELOADED had...
