TOP 10: BIG FISH catches top spot

BIG FISH and THE RETURN OF THE KING were in a close competition at the box office this weekend, but it was Tim Burton's surreal comedy/drama that edged past Peter Jackson's conclusion to Tolkien's fantasy epic. BIG FISH netted approximately $14.5 million dollars or about $400K more than KING for the weekend. As these are preliminary results, the final figures on Monday may change somewhat but it's not expected that the third RINGS film will evict BIG FISH from the top spot.
The weekend's two new releases, MY BABY'S DADDY and CHASING LIBERTY, both took in moderate hauls. CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN has cracked the $100 M barrier while
