TOP 10: The Creeper rakes it in

The Labor Day long weekend was much appreciated by Hollywood. MGM's JEEPERS CREEPERS 2 performed better than expected at the box office, grossing $18.5 million in its first three days of release. That's about $3 M better than the first film earned in its inaugural weekend two years ago, so chances are good the execs working at MGM will be thinking about a third entry sooner rather than later.

Overall it was a good weekend for films. Disney saw two of its summer successes, FREAKY FRIDAY and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, move up a couple of notches on the top ten list. After 8 weeks of release, PIRATES is still doing great business and will surpass the theatrical gross of THE MATRIX RELOADED this week. Sony's S.W.A.T. and Universal's SEABISCUIT both cracked the coveted $100 M mark while Paramount's re-release of THE ITALIAN JOB also pushed it over the nine figure mark. New Line's FREDDY VS. JASON is now over $70 M, the highest grossing film in either one of the two horror franchises.

Next week Heath Ledger enters the fray with THE ORDER, David Spade hits us with DICKIE ROBERTS: FORMER CHILD STAR and SHAOLIN SOCCER opens in limited release.
