1 - THE X-FILES
Stars: Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny, Mitch Pileggi, William B. Davis Creator: Chris Carter Distributor: Fox Retail Price: $149.98 (per season)
The Show: Mulder and Scully were trying to explain the unexplainable (the truth is out there, don't ya know?), and in the process created that rarest of things: a genre program that crossed over into the mainstream.
The Discs: The first show to undergo Fox's adventurous releasing of a TV series in season-by-season box sets (four seasons are currently available). Many have since followed this pattern.
VHS Can't Touch This: At $150 per season (at most), you're looking at a cost of $6 per episode. For fans, it's an undeniable value.
Reason to Buy These Discs: Some hate the cardboard, foldout slipcase design, but how else do you figure on fitting nine seasons' worth on your shelf?
