TOP 10: MEAN GIRLS, big box office
By: Patrick SauriolDate: Monday, May 03, 2004
Teen angst is back! Paramount's MEAN GIRLS clawed its way to the top of the pile this past weekend taking in an estimated $25 million bucks and making Lindsay Lohan's star just a little more brighter. The movie made its budget back ($17 M) plus more, a nice showing for a film just before the summer fireworks kick off.
MAN ON FIRE held tight to the second spot with $15 M and 13 GOING ON 30 came in third with an estimated $10 M. New Line's romantic comedy LAWS OF ATTRACTION debuted in fourth spot with $7 M followed by Lions Gate's GODSEND and DreamWorks' ENVY. Meanwhile, Quentin Tarantino's KILL BILL VOL. 2 continues to grab its share of mad cash with another $5.8 M added to its total. Both THE PUNISHER and SCOOBY-DOO 2 seem poised to disappear from next week's top 10. And if you're keeping track of all the comic book flicks currently out, HELLBOY is in twelfth position with $1.75 M new dollars (for a total of $57.4 M.)
Here are the estimated box office receipts of the top ten films from May 1 through to May 3, with their weekend gross and the movie's total domestic gross to date:
