Top 10 Reasons Why Everything is Awesome (The Lego Movie)

As if you need more...

The Lego Movie arrives June 17th, 2014.

I loved LEGOs as a kid. Who didn't? Yet, I had no idea of the globe encompassing phenomenon my little plastic pieces would, one day, become. I admit I have not kept up with the LEGO movies or video games. While I continue to build and enjoy the playsets as an adult, I chose to turn almost a blind eye to the massive pop culture overspill into my beloved tiny world of imagination.
Then, with the release of The LEGO Movie, I could barely walk down the street or turn on a computer without  catching word of how good, nay, AWESOME this film is.  It's not that I didn't want to see it, I just never got around to heading to the theater.  I felt as though I were missing out on something big.
Finally, with the arrival of The LEGO Movie on Blu-ray and DVD, it is my chance to learn why everything is awesome. Here are 10 reasons why everything really IS awesome about The LEGO Movie.

1. The characters live in a LEGO world and they know it
In other words, this is NOT a story of human characters being played out by LEGOs. Hair is plastic, guns don't shoot, and, yes, it is possible to build a spaceship from just about anything.
2. The voice cast
When you hear names like Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, and Anthony Daniels, you don't expect them to unite for an animated film about talking pieces of plastic in fantastical circumstances. The voices are well cast and full of surprises.
3. The catchy tune
I'll admit it, I'm still not sick of  that darn song being stuck in my head.
4. The reference to real LEGO sets and pieces
You'll see things you built 25 years ago come to life before your eyes; from buildings, to ships, to little men.
5. The quick and clever humor
Better watch out, or you'll miss three jokes at a time. The dialogue is snappy and satisfying and will keep your full attention for the whole story.
6. Batman and Star Wars
Don't question it, they're just there.
7. The movie doesn't take itself too seriously
With names like Wyldstye and President Business and places like Cloud Cookoo Land, it's best to just sit back and go with it. You won't be sorry.
8. On the other hand, it has a very serious lesson
You won't see it coming from the start, but the message will smack you in the face toward the end and leave you oozing smiles.
9. It's a movie for everyone.
It really doesn't matter if you're a kid, teen, adult, or earthworm. This movie will appeal to all ages and tastes in humor. Trust me.
10. It reminds us that LEGOs are here to stay
The most refreshing bit about The LEGO Movie, to me, is that, despite the crazy modern world, there are still things in life that require imagination. As long as there are LEGOs, kids (and adults) won't forget that with a little creativity and a big open mind, we are all still capable of amazing, special things...  AWESOME things.

Own "THE LEGO MOVIE" now on Digital HD and on June 17th on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD 2-Disc Special Edition.

Yep, this movie was truly awesome for all the above reasons!

I just can't see a Betta Bilda movie being anywhere as good, even though I prefered Betta Bilda over Lego growing up (I'm talking vs Lego from 48 years ago).

Funny how it's not on amazon, I guess they are going back and forth for a deal to distrubute?

Copy reserved tomorrow. Can't wait to see this again. Love the classic 80s spaceman since I had (still have in a box).

I still haven't seen this yet. It just hasn't worked out that I'm in the same place when somebody was showing it.

I watched this the other day on the airplane.  I had heard such good things about it, I was a bit disappointed when I finally watched it.  It's OK, I guess I just bought into the hype a little too much.  It happens.

millean - Sucks, huh?  I had the same thing happen to me with Wreck It Ralph.  Everyone kept going on and on about how great it was, that it was the best movie, so on and so forth, so by the time I saw it, there was no way for it to live up to the hype.

Can someone tell me if this was created with computers or with real legos? I can't friggin tell!

RobertTrate 6/17/2014 4:46:25 PM

Computers! It looks like stop motion but it is not.

@Dazzler, the movie is on Amazon for $18 and the 3D I belive $35.   However, I heard Amazon & Warner Bros are battling out and Amazon has pulled the WB preorders.
