TOP 10: Spidey defeats ANCHORMAN and ARTHUR

$257 million dollars in 12 days -- not too bad a feat, is it? That's what Columbia Pictures' SPIDER-MAN 2 has accomplished. The sequel proved to be the top champ at the box office again this weekend, emerging with another $46 M added to its overall take. Before the film entered the weekend it has managed to cross the $200 M barrier sometime on July 7, making it the fastest-grossing film to reach that impressive figure.
Second place went to DreamWorks' ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON BURGUNDY which opened with an estimated $28 M. With such a strong opening and generally positive reviews from most critics, expect Mr. Burgundy to reach $100 M before he's out of the first-run cinemas.
Benefitting from a mid-week opening, Buena Vista's KING ARTHUR is doing alright too by adding $15 M and change over the past two days. Michael Moore's FAHRENHEIT 9/11 drops to fourth overall but now stands with over $80 M in total ticket sales; a huge success for a documentary film in any way that you slice it. The rest of the top ten fall out without any big surprises, and the week's other new release, MGM's teen comedy SLEEPOVER, debuts at tenth position.
Next week: the artificial men of the future get uppity in the big-screen version of I, ROBOT; and Hilary Duff outwits her stepsisters in A CINDERELLA STORY. Decisions, decisions...which film to see first...
Here are the estimated box office receipts of the top ten films from July 9 through to July 11 with their weekend gross and the movie's total domestic gross to date. New films are signified in red.
