Get ready for some MARVEL goodness as THOR: THE DARK WORLD storms into theaters this weekend. But before you head off to the multiplex, MANIA has put together a list of our favorite TOP 10 TOYS of the world's favorite Asgardian. There were certainly a lot to choose from in the Thor-universe but we think we that we nailed it and stuck the landing. So without any further ado, here is the list for toy maniacs to indulge their favorite plastic goodness in. From under $10 to well above $100, MANIA has you covered. Now spell MJOLNIR ten times fast.
10. MARVEL LEGENDS BETA RAY BILL
Debuting some thirty years ago in the MARVEL UNIVERSE, Beta Ray Bill was the first Korbinite worthy of wielding Thor's hammer Mjolnir. A short lived argument for who would forever have Mjolnir, a truce was decided upon wherein a new hammer called the “Stormbreaker” was made just BRB. Pretty cool considering Thor's God complex. Bill has been molded in plastic for years but the best representation for the THOR list we believe to be the classic MARVEL Legends version.
9. THOR: THE DARK WORLD MARVEL SELECT THOR & JANE FOSTER
The new THOR movie is sure to do well at the box office getting a jump on all of the other holiday fare. The premiere line of MARVEL SELECT has gone ahead and made a new THOR in gold garb and Dr. Jane Foster in a dress gown. Nothing to laugh about considering how much some female figures go for these days. The Loki and Thor from MARVEL SELECT figures are both hovering around the $100 mark. Fine work from Diamond again on these two.
8. HOT TOYS' ODIN
The all-father ODIN is masterfully created by what is becoming the gold standard in all of toy collecting. From the exactness of the facial features to the set of accessories that comes with a HOT TOY, I still marvel (MARVEL, get it) at each new piece that they bring to market.
7. SDCC 2011 THOR with MJOLNIR CASE (RETURN OF THE MARVEL LEGENDS)
The MARVEL LEGENDS made a mighty return at the 2011 San Diego Comic Con pushing their flagship brand back to the forefront of collectors eyes. The wait was worth it with an Olivier Copiel designing a totally bad-ass THOR. This was the hot toy at the Con and not many were parting with their exclusive packaging of MJOLNIR complete with scroll inside the handle. A must have for THOR collectors indeed.
6. 2011 MOVIE HEIMDALL
Billed as a “deluxe” figure, this guardian of Asgard figure became a VHTF (Very Hard to Find) piece right away. It hovered around the $40 mark at one point but has fallen some in price and it is pretty easy score it on AMAZON these days. Well done and a solid paint job for a mass-produced figure.
5. 2011 MOVIE THE WARRIORS THREE & LADY SIF
I had an impossible time finding these in store and eventually had to resort to the secondary market and was able to nab all four for about $75. For a collector though it was a price worth paying to risk never finding them at your local big box shop. Hogun, Fandrall, Volstagg and the lovely Lady Warrior Sif are must have figures to call yourself an Asgardian!
4. FIN-FANG-FOOM BUILD-A-FIGURE
Ah the coveted Build-A-Figure from MARVEL Legends wave. Always hard to find and there is always seems to be that elusive piece that you just can't find to finish your coveted Fin-Fang-Foom. Once considered to be just a monster in old issues of STRANGE TALES, Triple-F has cemented his popular in the Thor-universe as being one bad mother.
3. WAL*MART EXCLUSIVE FROST GIANT
Beautifully realized in a VHTF Wal*Mart Exclusive wave, this two pack really packed a punch. Originally just for $45 or so, the price has doubled and in some cases tripled for a mint-in-box version of the frosty toed giant.
2. WAL*MART EXCLUSIVES BEARDED THOR & LOKI
Another Wal*Mart exclusive has a very bearded Thor along a scary looking Loki. Forget about finding them together, finding just one seemed impossible. I have still yet to attain this but maybe they will be reissued because of the new mega movie come this weekend.
1. 2013 HOT TOYS THOR: THE DARK WORLD
HOT TOYS has outdone themselves again with a close to $300 figure worthy of holding Mjolnir. It has everything a Thor fan could want and then some. If I could afford one of HOT TOYS ultra-figures, this one is definitely on the top of my list.
