TOP 12: COACH CARTER kicks ELEKTRA's booty
By: Patrick SauriolDate: Monday, January 17, 2005
Samuel L. Jackson proved to be a bigger draw at last weekend's box office race than a sai-wielding Jennifer Garner. Paramount's COACH CARTER easily defeated 20th Century Fox's ELEKTRA at the box office, with the former picture earning double of the latter. Even with ELEKTRA playing on more screens than CARTER, and with new episodes of ALIAS to buoy Garner's presence in the mainstream, it wasn't enough to move the superheroine past fifth spot on the chart.
Second spot is owned by MEET THE FOCKERS which now has grossed more than $230 million bucks domestically in just four weeks. IN GOOD COMPANY, starring Dennis Quaid and THAT 70s SHOW cast member Topher Grace, took third spot while the comedy RACING STRIPES walked away with the fourth position.
Here are the estimated box office receipts of the top twelve films from January 14 through to January 16 with their weekend gross and the movie's total domestic gross to date. Any new films opening this week would have been signified in red.
