The Weekend Box Office

TOP 12: FOCKERS continues to dominate the box office

It was another big weekend for Universal's MEET THE FOCKERS. The New Year's Eve/Day weekend proved to be the best thing for the sequel which saw another $42.8 million dollars added to its gross. That's only a drop of a little more than 7% from its opening gross last weekend, and as you'll soon see, the close of 2004 was good for most films on our chart.

The LEMONY SNICKET film rebounded and came up a spot to second place; after three weeks the Jim Carrey comedy has earned $94 M. THE AVIATOR also moved up a notch to number three overall file FAT ALBERT dropped to fourth place even though it made a little more than it did last weekend. In fact, the only films in our top twelve that earned less this week than they did seven days ago were FAT ALBERT, THE POLAR EXPRESS, DARKNESS and THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU; all the other pictures saw their grosses increase thanks to more people going to the movies. The biggest percentage winner was THE INCREDIBLES which saw a whopping 65% increase in ticket sales.

And for those suckheads keeping track of how well BLADE: TRINITY is doing, that film has dropped to thirteenth spot in its four week of release (total gross to date $48.2 M.)

Here's the estimated box office receipts of the top twelve films from December 31 through to January 2 with their weekend gross and the movie's total domestic gross to date. Any new films opening this week would have been signified in red.
