Great to see Brian Bolland on the list. I loved his work on 2000AD. My first edition Killing Joke still is a prized item in my collection.

I used to have a great Spiderman poster by Moebius hanging in my room that I would study for ages.  That one image set me out to discover more of his work, and I was always amazed at the work that turned up.  Unlimited range, with the characters always looking natural within their environment, not just placed somewhere with the background as an afterthought to fill out the frame.

Sienkiewicz did some really radical covers for Marvel that really elevated the books that they were on.  His depiction of Warlock from New Mutants sticks with me right through to today.

I still remember the Moebius vs Kirby Silver Surfer argument in the movie Crimson Tide thanks to dialogue punch up by Tarantino.

Mcfarlane was a real game changer for me. His style while certainly not the most technical, had so much heart. I couldn't wait to see how ridiculous the capes would be in Batman and Infinity Inc., or the detail on Spideys webs.

Wow...really rolling out the heavyweights now.  I've already expressed my love of Hal Foster's work...I didn't particularly care for the writing on Prince Valiant but the artwork was exquisite.  I've always been a big fan of Bisley's gritty / sexy work.  Perhaps I'm biased because he's a New Jersey guy and graduated from the same art school as me, but I'd put Sienkiewicz in my top 10...crazy about his innovative Comics as Fine Art style.

I keep rereading this wanting to argue order, most of my true favorites...Adams, Bisley, Wrightson, Sienkiewicz and Bolland...already named makes me wonder/worry who in in the top 10.

NoPatch...I'm just thinking of this as the catalyst of a fun discussion...really, how can you rank artists?  Is Curt Swan better than Frank Frazetta ???   That's as silly as saying Gwyneth Paltrow is the most beautiful woman.

My "best" memory of Moebius is rather bitter sweet.  I was lucky enough to meet and briefly speak with him at Comic Con in either '82 or '83.  He had a small booth space and it was either his wife or an assistant who was having to try to stop people by asking if anyone had seen the movie Heavy Metal... because here was the artist.

Sadly very few stopped to even look at his work.  He just wasn't "famous"

It is all falling into place for Fred Hembeck to take the number one spot.
