Roqueja...I'm a huge Sergio fan.  Love Groo and have met him a few times at shows.  really nice guy!

Tremendous list. Refreshing to see an article the likes of which I miss back when Cinescape was around. my only quip with today, what, no Micronauts love on Steve Ditko? that was a badge back in the day when the world was Furby crazy with Micronauts! :)

Lets see more of these relevant pieces Mania!

How about a worst artists list? :)

I know someone that would be at the time. Hint: no feet and lots of pouches!

ElBaz...behave yourself!  Some people think THAT guy should be on the best list...I'm not one of them but to each their own.  I absolutely hated FRank Robbins's art on Captain American back in the 70s but there are people who said I'm nuts...

Personally I always hated Erik Larsen and his half ass McFarlane imitation.  talk about riding the coattails

This is probably one of the most accurate top 10 list I've ever seen, all the names seemed to be in the right place but also, I think Mania deserves a great kuddos for interviewing and asking the pros who should be on the list, it ads to the fact that you guys really made an effort into this list.

I love comics and this last top 10 clearly shows the ones who really made an impact (all the others also on the list did the same but not as much as the top 10).

Was really fun to read...p.s. thanks for showing the George Perez picture of Future Imperfect with the Maestro, one of his best work with the Hulk.

Was there a single woman in the top 50?  My favorite is Jan Dursema who hooked me on comics in college with Arion: Lord of Atlantis (go ahead and laugh).  I used to have several of her works framed, sketches I got at Ithacon.  But they all went bye bye when we lost all the stuff in storage.  I miss them.

But you really should have included Wendy Pini.

nice to see jack kirby at number one for to me he is one of the undisputed comic artists ever the true king of comics espically given that his work incluidng his fourth world stuff and all his marvel work is still enjoyed by fans today in other media too.

karas, nothing against Pini or Jan, both fine artists but I wasn't going to put a female artist on JUST to put one on.  Neither of them were mentioned even once by those I polled and you'd be hard pressed to convince me that either has the resume to knock any of the other 50 off the list.

Maybe not those two, Tim, but certainly Marie Severin. I always loved her gritty and dynamic work on Hulk and that Fallen Angels comic, and I hear she had a bit of an EC repertoire, too. Surely, she must have come up, what with the rep she has among her peers and the awards she won.
