It’s time for another edition of Mania’s Most Maniacal Rumors, where we blow the lid off the week’s juiciest gossip and hush-hush industry whispers.
If you have a rumor you want to contribute, we’re all ears. Just send it to jarrod@mania.com.
Maguire pulling in a 50 million payday for Spider-Man 4 and 5?
Rumor: Fresh off the news that Maguire (and possibly Raimi) are officially coming back into Sony’s Spider-Man franchise, a new unconfirmed report has popped up stating that Maguire could be pulling in up to $50 million dollars for his services.
Source: Times Online
Mania Verdict: TRUE---This isn’t unheard of for high profile projects. Actors and studios sometimes cut a deal to get some funds on the backside of the profit margins (after theatrical and DVD release cash comes in). While we’re not sure if those receipts amount to a $50 mil payday, it could happen for the leading star.
Wonder Woman Getting a Modern Day Image?
Mania Verdict: TRUE---Who wants to live in the past when it comes to bringing Superheroes to the big screen? That’s what Goldberg is thinking here.
"I can only speak for myself ... I would like it to be more current," Goldberg said. "I hope that we don't finally wind up doing the same story again: Steve Trevor flying, and his plane crashes onto the island [of Themyscira, Wonder Woman's matriarchal homeland]. He's supposed to be executed, and she saves his life. Perhaps we'll do that in a very abbreviated fashion up front, and then come up with a story that no one has seen yet."
Dr. Mann Appearing in the First Y:The Last Man Film?
Source: UGO Movie Blog
Mania Verdict: TRUE---Here’s what he had to say.
"Everyone's like 'Lucy Liu' or dah dah dah. I don't know! It's really hard because you want to have this ... whew. I don't know to be quite honest ... actually 711 is in this. Do you remember 711? She's in our screenplay too. So I've given a lot of thought to 711 ... but 355 ... I don't know the right answer because that's this really Stanford, MIT type of intelligence, and at the same time she's asked to do a lot of interesting things and the whole thing with the cloning. You really want Dr. Mann to be believable. And believe it or not, Dr. Mann definitely is involved majorly in the first ... in the beginning of this, but we don't really get into the Dr. Mann stuff, or deeper into the Dr. Mann stuff, until, God willing, if we get into the second movie."
David Boreanaz is playing Hal Jordan in The Green Lantern?
Source: Moviehole
Mania Verdict: FALSE---This rumor was debunked by Latino Review who also posted a positive script review of the upcoming project. They’re right too. The character will be 27 in the film and David is too old to play it.
Eva Longoria is The Wasp in The Avengers?
Source: Oh No They Didn’t
Mania Verdict: FALSE---That’s the call at this point so early into preproduction of the project. It should also be noted that The Wasp doesn’t appear in the issue that Eva L. is holding in the photos linked above. Maya Lopez—aka Echo---does appear in that issue. We will admit that she might be studying for a part in the film or researching in hopes of landing a role but whether it’s The Wasp is unsure.
Eva Mendes doesn’t think a Ghost Rider 2 will happen?
Source: MTV
Mania Verdict: No verdict needed. Eva is stating her opinion here but then at the end of the quote, she does say that she will come back to act with Nic Cage in anything.
"I think 'Ghost Rider' had its moment. I don't know about a sequel, but I don't think it needs one. I think it was a great experience, and I was so proud of it. It was fun ... but I think it's done. But look, hey, if it's Nicolas Cage again -- I'll do anything with him."
Edward Norton Back for Incredible Hulk 2?
Rumor: Universal and Marvel Studio executives have publicly said they’re “pleased” with the box office results of this summer’s Incredible Hulk, despite the fact that it came out nearly the same as Ang Lee’s 2003 film. The next question is when (or if) the sequel will be happening for the Green Menace. When that was asked to leading star Edward Norton, he seemed “unsure”.
Source: MTV
Mania Verdict: TRUE---We think Norton will be back but we find it more likely that Marvel Studios will focus on getting Thor, Ant-Man and Captain America into theaters before any Incredible Hulk 2 sees the light of day. Here’s what Norton had to say.
"The minds of Marvel are sometimes opaque," Norton. "I won't say [they're] obtuse, but I don't have any idea what they want to do."
Watchmen 2 Still a Possibility?
Source: MTV
Mania Verdict: TRUE---Here’s what leading star Patrick Wilson has to say on it.
"It's all been talked about," Wilson said. "Financially, they like to do that. But all of us, [director] Zack [Snyder] included, all go, 'How on Earth could you do a sequel or prequel?'"

1. Good for Maguire. Lika Jay says "if you aint in it for the money get out of the game".
2. Don't care what they come up with for this but I think the story she doesn't want to do is the one that's gonna get made for the cartoon dvd coming out. Meaning she doesn't have to worry cause I doubt they do that again in live action.
3. Haven't read this.
4. Who the hell wants to see David Boreanaz in anything?
5. Eva Longoria is damn hot!!
6. Mendes doesn't have to be in any Ghost Rider sequel so who cares what she has to say.
7. Norton needs to shut the hell up and play nice cause he can be replaced in a heartbeat and the franchise won't miss a beat.
8. Prequel could definitely work and if Watchmen turns out be really good, I don't see why not.
