Top Maniacal Rumors: Miller's Lantern, Mignola Hell and Super Paris

By: Jarrod Sarafin
Date: Friday, August 15, 2008

It’s time for another edition of Mania’s Most Maniacal Rumors, where we blow the lid off the week’s juiciest gossip and hush-hush industry whispers.
If you have a rumor you want to contribute, we’re all ears. Just send it to jarrod@mania.com.

George Miller Directing Green Lantern Instead of Justice League?
Rumor: While Justice League has been placed on hold for director George Miller until next year (to be released 2011), a new rumor has popped up suggesting that he could be taking the top job for the upcoming adaptation of the Green Lantern and could be off the Justice League project.
Source: IESB
Mania Verdict: TRUE---There have been rumors for sometime that Miller’s deal would need to be restructured before he could continue with Justice League due to the delays. With all the preproduction problems regarding Justice League and Miller’s home country Australia, it would stand to reason that Miller would opt out and go with a different comic character.

Creator Mike Mignola Concerned About Del Toro’s Hellboy III?

Rumor: Despite being consulted quite often and approving of the first two installments of the franchise, based on Mike Mignola’s comic series, it seems the comic author has reservations on what could happen in Del Toro’s Hellboy III.

Source: MTV
Mania Verdict: TRUE---While there’s doubt as to whether there will even be a third installment with the less than stellar box office performance and the director being in middle earth for the next four years, here’s what Mike Mignola had to say about Del Toro’s plan for a Hellboy III.
"The problem is, what del Toro's talked about to me is that 'Hellboy III' would be the end of Hellboy," Mignola said. "And here's where we have the big conflict. My version of Hellboy in the comics is a finite story, but it's going to take me 15 years to get to the ending. If he makes 'Hellboy 3' and it's the death of Hellboy, I'm left doing the comic going, 'But I'm not done yet.'"

X-Men Origins: Magneto on Hold by Goyer?

Rumor: With X-Men Origins: Wolverine getting prepped for a May 2009 release, director David Goyer was asked on the status of that other X-spin-off Magneto. It seems, judging from his reply, that we’re likely going to get The Invisible Man first so Magneto could be put on hold.

Source: Comic Book Resources
Mania Verdict: TRUE---This isn’t too surprising. Insiders have already indicated that 20th Century Fox is holding off on a Silver Surfer spin-off until they see how X-Men Origins: Wolverine does with audiences next May. It seems that executives at the studio could be doing the same policy for a Magneto spin-off as well and Goyer is just moving on with his next projects until the go ahead is given.
"I'm writing a new version of 'The Invisible Man' for Universal," Goyer said. "I'm in the process of doing ['Invisible Man'] right now, and I'm working with some conceptual artists in tandem with writing the script. I'm actually working with one of the artists from 'Batman Begins' and 'The Dark Knight.' So it could be 'Magneto,' or it could be 'The Invisible Man' next."

A Comic Book Based Version of Paris Hilton?

Rumor: It seems that celebrity Paris Hilton could be the next blonde to get a comic book based treatment and Stan Lee could be helping her get it adapted.

Source: Perez Hilton
Mania Verdict: TRUE---As much as we would like to say false, this has been a theme used before. Jenna Jameson has a comic based around her likeness and Pamela Anderson has the same thing. Paris Hilton will likely be the next blonde to get a comic alter ego as well.

Robot Chicken’s Breckin Meyer and Seth Green in Next Season’s Heroes?

Rumor: The duo behind the hit series “Robot Chicken”, Breckin Meyer and Seth Green, could be appearing in a story arc for the upcoming season of NBC’s “Heroes”.

Source: Michael Ausiello
Mania Verdict: TRUE---New EW and former TV Guide contributor Michael Ausiello says the duo are “this close” to signing a deal to appear as Atlanta-based comic book nerds who cross paths with one of the heroes. The creators like to include these bits of fun cameos into their series, having cast Uhuru, Sulu and comic creator Stan Lee into their series so this rumor seems to make sense.

Brett Ratner Remaking 1980 Horror Film Mother’s Day?

Rumor: Remakes of 80’s era horror film seem to be the latest trend in Hollywood with Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Prom Night and numerous other films getting an updated revision. The latest rumor suggests that Brett Ratner will be producing a remake of Charles Kaufman’s controversial Mother’s Day with Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II-IV, Repo! The Genetic Opera) sitting in the director’s chair.

Source:Shock Til You Drop
Mania Verdict: TRUE---While no distributor is mentioned, remakes of horror films seem to be an on going trend inside Hollywood circles. It fits that Mother’s Day is the next on the revision list. There’s question as to whether Ratner will find time for the project but we’re not doubting this controversial film, which is banned in some countries for its violence and rape scenes, getting a remake.

Let me guess: Paris gets her powers/abilities from a mutant strain of herpes that enables her to consume mass quantities of splooge which she uses to save the world from a huge spew-nami. Yeah, that sounds about right.

STUPID SELFISH WORTHLESS PARTY SLUT.

As for Magneto: Whatever Goyer's doing he'd better do it soon. Sir Ian aint no spring chicken.

Last & certainly least, Ratner: I'd like to donkey punch his mother on Mother's Day.

Sorry joeyb, I know you & Brett are tight;)

Stan Lee is the man for helping bring us these great characters and love cameos he does in the Marvel movies but some of the stuff he's been doing lately just seems like he just trying to make a quick buck, which I guess is understandable. Marvel isn`t really all that great at taking care of their alumni. That show on Sci-Fi, Lightspeed, and this are just all bad ideas and seem really cheesy.
I rather a Hal Jordan Green Lantern movie than any sort JLA flick right now. The thing is, how are they going to explain to Joe & Joan Public that not only are we getting 2 different Batman and Supes but 2 Green Lanterns? They could also do what Marvel did with Iron Man and have some sort of cameo, like Superman at the ending talking about getting a group of heroes together.
I don't think that they will even make another Hellboy and even if they did , it won't be for awhile while Del Toro is in Middle Earth.

1. Stop with this travesty! IF you're gonna make the teen titans, then call it the TEEN TITANS! Don't call it JLA if you're using all teenagers! ALso stop with the black Green Lantern already! It is an insult to Green Lantern fans! It's like making a movie about Batman and using Jean-Paul Valley, instead of Bruce Wayne!

2. What a F***ing baby Mignolia is! By Del Toro's own account his influence is what ruined the first movie! Del Toro made his character mainstream! He should just shut up and go back to kissing Del Toro's ass, cuz most people still don't know who he is anyway!

3. GOOD! I always thought this was a bad idea anyway! Who wants to go back now, and findout how Magneto became Magneto? It's kinda a moot point! Have we learned nothing from the SW trilogoy? HAVE WE LEARNED NOTHING?

4. I already have her superhero name all picked out "Bigfoot". Her superpower is that she has feet the size of New Jersey and the best thing is that it's a true story. HAHAHA!

5. I DON"T CARE!

6. If they have any B@lls at all, they will release this on Mother's Day! Imagine taking your 150 year old MOM to this on Mother's day! Just tell her it's a heartwarming tale about 2 boys who love their Mother! Then relish the look of horror on her face when all the gushie stuff happens! That's not letting me buy that metal Ninja Sword that one time when I was five! HAHAHA!

Oh Gawd! Now I am completely spent! Ladies carry me out! The bedroom's that way! And don't forget to lock the door on your way in!

Bunch of haters, we must hope Ratner keeps getting work, the more on his plate the less time for Kratos. More work for Ratner please, more!!!
Cuaron for JLA, CUARON!!!!!!!!!

What the hell is wrong with the black Green Lantern? The Green Lantern Corps are made of a myriad of beings and that's okay, but make Green Lantern black and you have a problem? Hal Jordan who is great is not the end all, be all of Green Lanterns. Having Stewart as Green Lantern is only an insult to ignorant fucktards that can't get over their own prejudice. Those are the same people that can't vote for Obama because they are "uncomfortable" with having a black president! "OMG his skin color is ..different than mine. That`s just too crazy for me."

Got quite a bit of stupidity in there, notafan (except for the Mother's day suggestion. that's pretty good).

1) you're a racist prick. Get the piss off this site.
2) Del Toro's a big a fan boy as all of us. He bought a second house just to keep all his comic books in. He passed up directing much more mainstream movies so he could direct Hell Boy. He's got no one to blame for Hell Boy but himself.
3) The Star Wars prequels sucked because they sucked, not because we knew how it would end. It's about the talent (both actors & the director) making the film, not just the subject matter.
4) yeah, everyone hates paris hilton
5) eh.
6) Yeah, that's actually pretty funny.

Damn right, ponyboy. Hal Jordan's a bit of a square anyway. Just please don't use Kyle Raynor. Guy Gardner might be a different take on the film, however. I could see Jack Black in that role.

On a side note, who thinks it would be interesting to see the daily show's John Stewart get the Robert Downing Jr. surgery and play green lantern John Stewart?

Mike Mignola ruined the first Hellboy? Tha's funny I personally thought the first Hellboy was a lot better then HB2. The first one was waaay more darker and serious. Although I liked the second HB it was a little corney. Could just be me though.

1- GL/HJ is the best GL by far and if they're doing a GL movie it should start with him. I just hope they still go ahead and make the JLA film. With 3 years to go they shouldn't have a problem finding a new director dedicated to the project.

2-The HB films haven't been all that great or succesful so I really don't care if they don't make another. MM has a good point too. It is his story and GDT shouldn't jump ahead of him with his death.

3-Magneto? That's was a bad idea when conceived and still is. IMHO. Unless you include the Brotherhood. But enough about his childhood and the Nazi camps.

4-Stan Lee shot his load 45 years ago. He needs to stop. And Marvel has been paying Lee a million dollars a year for a long time to do nothing. So stop all that talk about Marvel not taking care of him or needing money.

Everything else I don't care about. And who the fuck is going to pay for a PH comic. What's she going to be called? NoAssAtAll.

1.Good on the JLA delay. Great on the moving forward w/GL. Not sure how ‘true” the Mania Verdict is but here’s hoping. Personally have no problems with a John Stewart GL but I do think Hal would be the appropriate GL to concentrate on for the first film. He was “the first” GL Corps member we were ever introduced to and has had the most focus over the years. Set up Stewart and Gardner for future films and definitely go with Stewart for the JLA movie.

2.It’ll probably be 15 years before we see another Hellboy anyway. Hopefully not. I really enjoyed both films. I gotta side with Mignola on this though. No final Hellboy film until he’s decided it is time. Love Del Toro but give the creator the final say, eh?

3.Big Fat Yawn. And who the hell is judging the potential success of The Silver Surfer off of how well Wolverine does? WTF do those two stories have in common?

4.Stan. Stan, Stan, Stan. Just stop it. I love ya. Your finger is no longer on the pulse of young society; it is up its ass. Absolutely love and appreciate everything you did for the industry prior to 1990. It’s time to go gentle into that good night sir.

5.Sounds like it could be fun. Here’s hoping Heroes is actually good this season!

6.What hanso said.
