The debut episode of The WB's SMALLVILLE managed to shove past UPN's ENTERPRISE.
Though ABC's ALIAS continues to hold on tight to the genre top spot, followed by CBS' THE AGENCY, SMALLVILLE took the spot previously held after those program's by ENTERPRISE.
Still, in spite of ENTERPRISE's drop from an overall 66th slot to 69, the show still gained 400,000 viewers from the previous week.
Meanwhile, genre shows were still slim pickings with Fox devoting much of its primetime schedule to Major League Baseball, pre-empting the network's usual episode of DARK ANGEL on Friday nights. Given the delays caused by the events of September 11th, MLB's season and the World Series will further delays Fox's genre programming, including THE X-FILES, THE SIMPSONS and THE TICK.
In addition, CBS placed SURVIVOR AFRICA over into WOLF LAKE's usual slot, pre-empting the genre show for the week.
In the overall ratings, NBC's ER beat out FRIENDS for the top slot with ((26.7/17.6/28).
