Well, I loved Toy Story 3. It was Pixar so that is kind of a given but I can say that it had really good dialog and a great plot line. I am sure he got picked because of his connections to Pixar. I can tell you that if this guy does get this job he is the luckiest writer in Hollywood. If the movies are well received at least. If not then he is fukked for life.
Now announce that Brad Bird is directing and all will be well. I would rather he do Star Wars than even The Incredibles 2.
The article also states that his story treatment was sent to three directors:
Brad Bird, JJ Abrams and some unknown guy named Spielberg.
I'm liking the Heir to the Empire picture for the article. I'd like it a lot more if the official movie poster ended up looking remarkably similar.
I am still for Brad Bird. That is all based only on what I think of the Incredibles. If he takes that formula of family friendly action and fun then the new Star Wars will be an awesome romp for everyone.
I think Brad Bird is the logical choice.
If I recall, back in 2006 when Pixar was bought by Disney, a lot of the Pixar guys were given new titles and I think it also opened doors now that they were considered full Disney employees. For examples, Lasseter became EVP of the animation division, etc... So it all makes sense Disney sticks "in house" with the people they groomed.
I'm sure that is why Bird and Stanton got their shot at live action to see if they can do it and they pulled it off. John Carter was considered a bomb but I don't think it was his fault and I liked.
It won't surprise me if Bird gets the directing job with Michael Ardnt as the scriptwriter.
Andrew Stanton directed John Carter of Mars. I loved the movie and think it is highly under rated. But the new Mission Impossible movie was supposedly great and Bird did direct that movie. Now I need to go watch Ghost Protocol.
Spielberg has just said in a recent interview he will not be directing Ep VII. He said it was not his genre. That's okay with me but he obviously mispoke about "not his genre". Afterall, what was his entire 80's movie career about?
Well this isn't bad news, however if Timmothy Zahn was listed as a hire by disney that would be GREAT news.
