A lot of pumping for this movie in the media and on other sites like this. Tarantino and others of his ilk have a built in audience of fans that will undoubtedly call this latest offering "his best work yet".

This film, much like Tarantino himself, looks to be a truly self-aggrandizing, tacky, gratutious, ham-handed send-up of some very bad 70's schlock.

For those of you like mixed drink filmmaking 2012 "Django Unchained" is;
 
1 part "Mandingo"

1 part Italian/Spanish "Django" (can be from any film in the series)

2 parts "Cut Throats"

Mix in various scenes from "El Topo"

Serve in a dirty glass.



Will this film be successful. Yes, it probably will. In some ways Tarantino is doing the youth of the west a favor. He has condensed much of all that was bad and yet oddly captivating about late 1960's and 1970's exploitation films into single serving chunks so that no one has to sit through all that tacky violent garbage... Like I did.
 

 I'd be curious to see your list of bad movies that the self aggrandizing, ham handed Tarantino put together to make "Reservoir Dogs,"  "Pulp Fiction,"  and "Inglourious Basterds."

My favorite thing in Tarantino flicks is the dialogue...won't find anything like it in El Topo or Cut Throats.

Did you really sit through "Mandingo ?"

I'm sort of ashamed to admit it, but yes I did. :(

While there is quite literally a Smorgasbord of exploitation films to choose from- If you really want to get the "flavor" of QT's style, simply watch "The Black Gestapo". It's all there. You'll sense the indelicacy of that film in almost ultraviolent film he's ever done. In fact QT has not entirely passed the threshold for bad taste yet... There are tactless films from the mid 1970's that may actually still be banned in the USA.

Of course QT also heavily influenced by viewing a plethora of low budget low talent ultra violent asian crime/gangster dramas that came out of Hong Kong and Taiwan as well.

The film-school education of QT was him being a video store clerk during the hey-day of VHS. His job gave him free and unfettered access to all types of cinema... It's just that he was drawn to cinema le bad... And it worked.

All I read is - blah, blah, blah, I'm an elitist film snob, blah, blah, blah.

OK Muenster your prediction is as safe as me saying the sun will rise tomorrow since the film is already being praised almost unanimously, it's already being nominated for countless awards and even touted as one of the year's best films. Not to mention he has an established fanbase.

And QT's backstory is pretty well known as well as his influences.  He doesn't hide any of this so outside of naming a couple of obscure films what exactly is your point?

He has fans, he makes movies that he likes that most of his fans would like. So what if he never received proper schooling, it just shows that it isn't a requirement for success.
 

This movie looks stupid

 The worst thing about Tarantino films coming out is having to listen to haters like Muenster spout the same old rhetoric. 

No, Goatartist, that is the best (and only) thing about Tarantino films worth anything.
