Mania Box Office Report: Wrecking It

Disney has game!

By Robert T. Trate     November 04, 2012
Source: Box Office Mojo

If you ventured to out to the movies this weekend, more than likely you saw the new Disney pic, Wreck-It Ralph. Perhaps we all we needed to laugh a little bit after Hurricane Sandy and Disney’s video game movie delivered in spades. Wreck-It Ralph dominated the weekend box office with 49 million, making twice what Robert Zemeckis’ Flight drew. However, Flight has almost made its budget back, proving it was the more successful of the two films. At least this weekend.

Cloud Atlas seems to be hanging in there, but, with mixed reviews, it’s beginning to fall. Our own Rob Vaux gave it an F (see review). I have yet to see the film, but it has already earned a place in the John Carter/ Prometheus debate. Ben Affleck’s Argo has dropped to number three, but as the Oscar race begins, expect to see Argo resurface.

Wreck-It Ralph
The Man With the Iron Fists
Taken 2
Cloud Atlas
Hotel Transylvania
Paranormal Activity 4
Here Comes the Boom
Silent Hill: Revelation 3D

This week, our attention turns to the 23rd James Bond film, Skyfall. Remember that Skyfall opens on IMAX on November 8th and in regular theaters November 9th.

Yippie B.O. report is back!

Wreck it Ralph was good.  I wish they focused on another game for the main plot however.  Or visit more games.

I can't wait to hear what they budget was for Cloud Atlas, that seems to be the Waterworld for this year.

PA4 scarred the crap out of me as usual.

Wow, Man with the Iron Fists made a little over half it's budget back in it's first weekend.

Had a choice between Flight and Iron Fists and went with the Fists. It was exactly what it shows itself to be: over-the-top-grindhouse-70s-era-style-Chinese-Kung-Fu tribute with modern FX. It did its job but if I had it to do over again I'd just wait for it to hit cable. I'm curious to see if new director Rza can broaden his work into other types of film now. Being over the top is somewhat easier to do then sensitive romance or taut thrillers.

Caught Wreck-It-Ralph on Friday night.  It was great fun, but I also would say that I was a teensy bit disappointed that 90% of the movie took place in "Sugar Rush"-Land.  Still darn good fun and I was surprised to see that King Candy was voiced by Alan Tudyk in the credits.  He really did a great just with that character.

Saw Sinister with a buddy last night too.  That movie was creepy as hell.  There's a couple scenes in the movie that sort of take you out of it and I think the ending should have been trimmed back, but it's been quite a while since a flicked creeped me out as much as Sinister has.

Went to see "Flight:, as usual Denzel delivered.  My buddy saw "Wreck-it Ralph" amd loved it.  Saw PA4 last weekend and that was a huge letdown, no scares, terrible ending, and plot holes the size of the Grand Canyon.

Bond next week, can't wait for that.  Week after is the (hopefully), last movie from that crapfest otherwise known as twilight.

Box Office Report I have missed you!

Caught Ralph a nd thought it was great.  I do agree about visiting more games though, that wouldve been cooler.

Saw Wreck-It Ralph Saturday with my kid.  It was a pretty fun movie.  I agree the Sugar Rush world was a little too over the top fluffy.  But in the end it worked out pretty good.

Really dug how they integrated the whole video game world.  "I'm a Bad Guy, but not a "Bad" Guy."

Dazzler I read that the budget for Cloud Atlas was 100 Mil.

decepticons2 11/5/2012 12:36:01 PM

If Ralph makes it 200mil, I wonder if a tv version will show up on Disney XD? There would be way more games but would capcom, nintendo and others want there product on it.

I made the point of better music. A 3min montage of Ralph trying for a medal might have been interesting. Also giving the movie a real theme song.

Paranormal Activity: Budget $5

Yeah, that's about what it looked like.

Ha ha!
