Time Cop Reboot at Universal

The Dark Horse Comic Return to the Big Screen

By Robert T. Trate     May 23, 2013
Source: Entertainment Weekly

Universal Studios announced on Wednesday that Time Cop will be rebooted. The original film from 1994 is based on Mark Verheiden’s Dark Horse Comic with the same title. The film did spawn a short-lived TV series in 1997 and a direct to video sequel.

The original film “imagined a world where time travel would be possible and where police regulate its usage. Peter Hyams’ 1994 film starred Jean-Claude Van Damme as an officer who tries to go back in time to save his wife from being killed — and stymie the endemic corruption that has emerged as a result of time-travel technology”.

Currently there are no plans to bring back Jean-Claude Van Damme. The film doesn’t have a director or a writing team yet.

The original movie never appealed to me and I've never read the comic or watched the show or sequel. I never liked the way the concept was executed.

Its fine if they re-do it. Like I always say , this type of property is a Franchise Character and you can reboot or remake them as many times as the public is willing to pay for it.

If done right, this could be good.  Never knew it was a comic, but this could be some awesome sci-fi goodness.  It can also be some awful sci-fi badness, so I just hope they do it right.

I liked the original... but damn I can't believe its been 20 years almost since it came out.

I would watch a remake of this

I really liked the first one, but I don't really feel the need for a reboot on this one.  Seeing how well JCVD did in Expendables 2 I'd rather see a sequel with him reprising his role.  But that's just me.

It's one of the very few JCVD films I actually liked.

I'm game, bring on the reboot. Or even a sequel with JCVD playing a minor role

The science in the original movie was TERRIBLE, would that REEEEAALLY happen if you came into contact with yourself, surely it's just like it's another person...

Liked all the Van Damme movies.  Time Cop wasn't my favorite (that would be Double Impact) but I still watched it numerous times on cable.  The most used (and abused) word in the Mania comments section is "Great." As in that was great or this is great or I think it will be great.  For example every thing Marvel does is great, every episode of Game of Thrones or Walking Dead is great, every Bruce Willis movie is great.

A better word for JCVD movies would be "Cheesy."  Sometimes there's nothing I like better than a really cheesey movie (and JCVD never let me down).

I usually dislike reboots, remakes, prequels and sequels so I'm not stoked about a new Time Cop...why don't they just call this new flick something else...could it be because then it wouldn't have with a built in nerd audience, everyone knows we Nerds love to spend our money on that stuff.

BunyonSnipe, that was my favorite part of the original. It made sense.
