The final fate of NBC’s Mockingbird Lane is sealed.

Welcome to the first Tuesday Terrors of 2013!  This week we’ve got news about NBC’s Munster’s re-boot Mockingbird Lane—and it’s not good—as well as looks at lots of new toys, and a pile of new trailers!

NBC declares Mockingbird Lane dead.  It has been decided by NBC execs that Bryan Fuller's reboot of The Munsters will not return to the small screen.  Fuller broke the news via Twitter saying, “I tweet with a heavy heart.  NBC not moving forward with #MockingbirdLane. From producers and cast, thank you all for enthusiasm and support."  The Halloween special performed decently but apparently not enough to inspire confidence in the powers that be.

Trailer for the Haunting in Connecticut II: Ghosts of Georgia.  Building on the terror of A Haunting in Connecticut, this horrifying tale traces a young family’s nightmarish descent into a centuries-old Southern hell.  When Andy Wyrick (Chad Michael Murray) moves his wife Lisa (Abigail Spencer)and daughter Heidi to an historic home in Georgia, they quickly discover they are not the house’s only inhabitants.  Joined by Lisa’s free-spirited sister, Joyce (Katee Sackhoff), the family soon comes face-to-face with a bone-chilling mystery born of a deranged desire…a haunting secret rising from underground and threatening to bring down anyone in its path.

The Walking Dead Series 2 Minimates.  Hot on the heels of Series 1, the new assortment of Walking Dead two-packs once again mixes humans and zombies, and includes Michonne with One-Eyed Zombie, Sailor Zombie with Leg-Bite Zombie, Andrea with Stabbed Zombie, and a rare variant of Andrea's doomed sister Amy with Stabbed Zombie! Each Minimate stands 2 inches tall with 14 points of articulation and a variety of removable and interchangeable parts and accessories.

John Dies at the End Red Band Trailer.  In John Dies at the End, it¹s all about the Soy Sauce, a drug that promises an out-of-body  experience with each hit. Users drift across time and dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a silent otherworldly invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets instead is John (Rob Mayes)and David (Chase Williamson), a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity? No.No, they can't.  Adapted from David Wong¹s audacious trans-genre horror novel, John Dies at the End is written and directed by Don Coscarelli (BUBBA HO-TEP) and also stars Clancy Brown, Glynn Turman and Paul Giamatti.

Storage 24 Red Band Trailer.  London is in chaos. A military cargo plane has crashed leaving its highly classified contents strewn across the city. Completely unaware London is in lockdown, Charlie (Noel Clarke) and Shelley (Antonia Campbell-Hughes), accompanied by best friends Mark (Colin O’Donoghue) and Nikki (Laura Haddock), are at Storage 24 dividing up their possessions after a recent break-up. Suddenly, the power goes off. Trapped in a dark maze of endless corridors, a mystery predator is hunting them one by one. In a place designed to keep things in, how do you get out?

Brian Keene’s Ghoul coming to DVD.  The Chiller original movie which premiered earlier this year, Ghoul, is going to make its DVD/digital download debut from Image Entertainment January 8th.  Something ghastly haunts Golgotha Cemetery – an entity of unspeakable evil…and insatiable hunger. It is the summer of 1984, a time that should be full of lazy, carefree days for 12-year-old Timmy (Gould) and his two best friends, Doug and Barry. But when a teenaged couple goes missing among the gravestones of the local cemetery, the bloodcurdling legend of a horrific ghoul begins to seem more like reality than myth. As the body count rises, Timmy and his friends are forced to confront their worst fears when they unearth long-buried secrets and unleash not only their personal demons…but also the one lurking underground!

Paranormal 4 Blu-Ray Details.  Paranormal 4 hits DVD/Blu-Ray January 29th and here are the details on the (slight) extras included for the blu-ray version.

  • Original Theatrical Version of the Film (HD)
  • Unrated Version of the Film (HD)
  • The Recovered Files—nearly 30 minutes of found footage

Jennifer Carpenter starring in The Devil’s Rapture.  Dexter’s Jennifer Carpenter is set to star in a new occult horror film called The Devil’s Rapture which will be released in October.  Something very strange happened in the small village of New Bethlehem, a devout community kept under the tight reins of the town's vigilant Elders.  Six girls born on the same day to different mothers. Perhaps a coincidence or as most believe a chilling omen of something yet to come. Now, on the eve of their 18th birthday, the young women are mysteriously disappearing one by one and feared dead. Terror has overtaken this quiet community.  Could this be the work of a serial killer, one of the village elders or a horrific prophecy come true, born of the supernatural, The Occult?

Amok Time’s Blackula figure.  It’s been a long time coming but here are the details on Amok Time’s premium 1/6th scale Blackula figure based on the 1970s cult film classic.  Blackula will be an affordable $79.99 and limited to 500 pieces.  The figure features a fully poseable body, excellent likeness to William Marshall, finely tailored outfit, Blacula logo display base and beautiful display package.

Trailer for German horror film Bella Kiss.  This new German horror film is based on real-life Hungarian serial killer Bela Kiss.  He reportedly killed 23 young women, storing their blood-drained bodies in metal barrels, conserved in alcohol.  It will star Kristina Klebe (Rob Zombie's Halloween, Chillerama) and  concerns five bank robbers in search for a hideaway in a remote hotel as they flee from the police. According to the synopsis, "brutal and unforeseen events take overhand and build a bridge to the past. The assumed safe house turns into a nightmare...is Bela Kiss still alive?"

Trailer for Iron Doors!  Iron Doors is a new horror in the vein of the Saw films.  Axel Wedekind stars as an investment banker who faces a slow death by starvation after being locked in a vault. Who kidnapped him and why? How can he escape the concrete walls and massive iron door that confine him? His journey of self-discovery has only just began and his fight for survival will teach him values in life he previously thought impossible.

Pic of NECA’s new Aliens figures.  We’ve got our first look at the new Aliens figures courtesy of NECA Toys.  Colonial Marines Hicks and Hudson stand nearly 7″ tall and feature over 30 points of articulation!! The marines include signature weapons including the pulse rifle, shotgun, welder, motion tracker, and shoulder lamp. Incredibly detailed and photo realistic portrait sculpts are sure to impress.

The all-new Aliens Warrior which stands over 9″ tall and has over 30 points of articulation including a bendable tail, hinged jaw, and sliding inner mouth. This version of the Warrior features the brown costume highlights and a glossy wet appearance.”

Amazon Exclusive Walking Dead Mini-Mates.  An Amazon Exclusive batch of Walking Dead Mini-Mates are now available.  Diamond Select Toys and Amazon.com have teamed up to offer an exclusive four-pack of Minimates, taken straight from the hit comic book series by Robert Kirkman. The set includes two new zombies, a Roamer and a Lurker, plus all-new versions of Michonne (with angry expression) and Rick Grimes (in prison garb, with battle damage).

The Frozen (Arc Entertainment) DVD Review

Grade: C-

One almost sure way to tell you’re watching a low-budget and usually bad horror film is when you have a maudlin and overly dramatic musical score, especially when it comes during the opening credits.  One point against The Frozen (not to be confused with 2010’s “Frozen).  Emma and her boyfriend Mike are on a winter camping trip into a remote mountainous area when their snowmobile crashes and becomes inoperable.  They walk back to their tend to try and figure out their next move.  Do they try to walk back to their truck or try to fix the snowmobile?

Well our intrepid little couple chooses a third option which is basically to do nothing but wander around their camp and bitch at each other.  In the meantime they spot a mysterious man staring at them who disappears when they try to approach him for help.  Brit Morgan as Emma does a credible job as the stressed girlfriend who is keeping her pregnancy secret from Mike.  You may remember Morgan from a recurring role in HBO’s True Blood.

When Mike disappears Emma begins seeing other strange, ghoulish people and having terrifying dreams.  Now I hate playing spoiler but The Frozen is little more than a remake of Carnival of Souls with nary a hint of that cult classic’s atmosphere.  Very few will likely be surprised by the twist ending.  There’s a fine line between building suspense in a film and just moving along too slowly and Director Andrew Hyatt in his debut at the helm hasn’t quite figured out the difference yet.

There are some good scenes at the beginning and end but the middle is filled with a lot of dull padding and you have to struggle to keep up your interest.

I caught Mockingbird Lane on Hulu and it was pretty bad.  I'm not sad that NBC passed it up.

So the ghosts of Georgia have relocated to Connecticut?  Sweet!  (But only if you live in/near Georgia).

Sorry, when I read that title, it just made me laugh.

I really Liked Mockingbird Lane. It had lots of potential. you had to think beyond the goofy original series. That was ok when I was 6 yrs old. This really was good. NBC just is clueless and has been ever since they cancelled the original STAR TREK.
