TOS 'Guardian' Writer Ellison Denies STAR TREK Rumor

By: Jarrod Sarafin, News Editor
Date: Thursday, December 13, 2007
Source: Trek Movie

Last month, there was a story circulating that the new STAR TREK film would have story elements taken from the TOS episode "Guardians of Forever" and that Harlan Ellison, writer for that episode would be a bit about angry about that fact since he owns some rights to that particular story concept. Well, Harlan Ellison himself has dispelled those rumors while at an event for the WGA strike, reports Trek Movie.

There's a video of Ellison talking about the rumors, complete with his patented-Ellison colorful metaphor lingo, and they state independent sources have verified that the GoF storyline is not in play with the movie's story. Check out the video in the Trek link above.

STAR TREK will hit theaters Christmas Day 2008.

Maniac Scoopers Monkeyfoot and JoeyBaloney sent this at the same time so thank you guys.

Minor correction there, Jarrod.

The TOS episode was titled "The City on the Edge of Forever," not "Guardians of Forever." The alien Kirk and company encounter in the episode was known as the Guardian, however.

Just FYI. :-)

Does that make you a Trekker or Trekkie rgtchtiger? : )

Haha, Rgt. I own up to to just meaning the Guardians of Forever sub-plot within the show itself but I'm definitly admitting to not typing out the full title of the episode there. You are correct on the full title...

I'm surrounded by Trekkers...Trekkies...Geeks...Nerds..and true Maniacs...and I love it.

:)

How about that Harlan Ellison though. Everytime I hear from him, I have to laugh. No doubt about it...The guy can bring out a chucklicious interview.

I'm glad just because at least that's one legal fight we'll be spared from.

Ha! Very funny, guys. I guess you can file me under the "Trekkie" category, though for the record I do not - and never have - owned Spock ears, Star Trek pajamas, turn on my car with a sound effect of "Go, Sulu!", speak Klingon fluently, or dress up in a Starfleet uniform for Halloween. :-)

Jarrod, maybe we should invent an abbreviation for the episode title for any future Mania updates, should they be necessary. Perhaps TCOTEOF?

I must fess up to a Starfleet uniform.

You sound like no fun at all!!

My wife and I were married on the bridge of the Enterprise with 2 Ferengi, a Borg, and an Andorian present.

Just remember to post new Trek stuff as it comes in DarkJedi. Or there will be an Insurrection. Esp pics.

That was a funny interview. They could have used this guy to lighten up some of those somber Enterprise episodes.

If I may interject a different opinion, I'd much rather we were not being beaten over the head with almost weekly news about Trek 11. I'd much rather hear nothing else about it until there is a trailer to either alleviate my concerns this will be the most craptastic of the Trek film or confirm them.

I realize, of course, Jarrod is only doing his job by posting them and that I could simply not click on the link, but I find I have no willpower.
