I don't know, it made 2 pretty decent 2 hour movies (both "Manhunter" and "Red Dragon" have their good qualities and their flaws, IMO), but I don't see a series going over as well.  I could be wrong.

I am wondering if they are trying to write this series to fit into the world of Hannibal we already know, or if they are basically starting from scratch.  I hope they are starting from scratch, as then I could see them developing out that relationship, and working towards finding out who Hannibal really is.  They could still paint themselves into a corner though.  I don't know if they can pull it off or not.  The actor playing Hannibal I think will be key.  Everyone views Anthony Hopkins as him these days, so he has to do a really good job with the character or it will fall flat

 I assume they are semi-starting from scratch, considering it looks like it will take place in present day, despite Red Dragon taking place around 1985.  Could the first season end with Will Graham figuring out that Hannibal Lector is a serial killer all along?  Seems like a natural way to make the season end on a cliffhanger.

 They announced already that the series is based on "Red Dragon".  IF that is true, then Lecter should be incarcerated the entire time.

It's before Red Dragon. When Hannibal was helping him catch killers all the while killing people himself.

I'll give it a look if the producers can make the FBI agent/profiler look less like a bum and if that very bad music is not involved.
