Michael Bay is going to bring us yet another live action Transformers film this June (you can see the new trailer here). What are Transformers without toys? Last weekend Hasbro revealed all their new Transformers for 2009. They encompass the new cartoon, the classic cartoon and the new movie all in celebration of Transformers 25th anniversary. The majority of what was actually in the showroom were toys that dealt directly with Michael Bay’s new film. If you are a fan of the new likenesses get ready for a real treat. If you are a die hard fan and like only the classic cartoon look then this won’t be for you. I will put out the SPOILER warning because some of what you are about to see might ruin the film for you. Then again, there will probably be ten different movie trailers between now and then so you might as well look any way.
BUMBLE BEE:
Finally Hasbro is making a Spike (a.k.a. Sam Witwicky) action figure that can ride inside Bumble Bee. Sure he seems small but the proportions match up. They are actually doing this for a lot of the human characters in the film. For this fan, who isn’t ten years old nor does he have a ten year old child, the Bumble Bee voice mixer helmet and Plasma Cannon are the coolest things in the line. The voice changer helmet takes it up a notch and even has a karaoke type feature but it is the fact that the Plasma Cannon plays Stan Bush’s classic “The Touch” makes it a must have!
OPTIMUS PRIME:
It is hard to believe that an Optimus Prime toy doesn’t really get me excited anymore. There will be various sizes and likenesses but this one does have a really cool new feature. Hasbro has placed moving parts inside his chest that give the illusion that even more is transforming inside him. Other than that it is just another Optimus Prime with flames.
STAR SCREAM:
Since Megatron has fallen (he'll be back), it looks as if Star Scream will have more of a focus alongside "The Fallen". Being a huge Star Scream fan these figures have that cut throat attitude that the character has always delivered. The interesting addition to the characters likeness is the Cybertron Warrior Tattoos.
DEVASTATOR:
It will be his break out movie and Devastator and the Constructicons will finally make that live action leap from the small screen. There will be numerous versions of Devastator and the Constructicons each varying in price and transformation. They don’t look like the cartoon counterparts but this realistic approach is a step up form their former bright lime green days.
We have 13 photos of the Transformers exhibit so click on the header picture to see all the pictures in the gallery. My Toy Maniac Column this Friday will feature Hasbro’s new Star Wars, some more Transformers and Marvel figures from Toy Fair as well.
The lime green look of the Constructicons in the original show actually did make sense since they were based on a line of equipement produced in Asia in the 80's that was lime green. I just hope they keep the fact that Starscream built them in the story. Also hoping that means we'll see the Dinobots soon maybe part 3. I know we won't but that would be cool. Me like Grimlock.
