Toy Fair 2012 SWAG

Big haul this year

By Robert T. Trate     February 24, 2012

Each and every convention throughout the year has its fair share of Swag. Toy Fair may be an industry and press only event but it does have its Swag too. The funny thing about Toy Fair is that it caters to all ages, whereas Comic Con caters to a very specific group of people. Much of the Swag I received went to a either a children’s hospital or to my nephews. Afterall, I didn’t know what to do with half of it. I am a grown man. I like action figures. Here is an assortment of Swag handed out at this year’s Toy Fair.
The Battleship Water Bottle

"Water, water everywhere, nor any drop to drink". Well, not anymore. Hasbro hooked people up with snazzy water bottle supporting the Battleship movie logo. Though I have little to no hope for this film since I saw Rihanna in the trailer, I do appreciate the water bottle. It fits perfectly into my backpack. This piece of Swag actually has some real world functionality.

The following is a crazy assortment of toys from Jakks Pacific. It was very kind of them to hook me up with a Tinker Bell (in Apple Fashion), a pair of puppy slippers, a Rubic’s Cube pen, and a few other odd ball items. The Vampire with the exposed brain (which allows him to stick to things) is cool to look at, but what is it from?
The S.L.U.G.

Remember the MUSCLE MEN? Well Jakks Pacific is hoping you do and that kids will love these rubber Zombies. Zombies are the first S.L.U.G. (Scary Little Ugly Guys) items to hit the market. Look for Vampires and other monsters to follow soon. If you get a pack and have a brown one inside, well that’s one of the human characters.

Monsuno is a new cartoon that will be in the spirit of Pokemon. A complete line of battle toys will arrive with launchers, heroes, and villains. The animation looks cool but this is obviously something for young boys. Thanks for the cool t-shirt, though (very soft and not pictured).

MattyCollector hooked everyone up with two of their top of line action figures this year. One was from their extremely popular W.E. line and the other was from the Masters of the Universe Classics. The nice thing about going with a group of press is that we can trade off figures. My buddy got several different W.E. figures, whereas I got a couple of Fistos (review to follow soon).
LEGO Brunch

This is the one that is both loved and dreaded. It happens at 6 am on Sunday, ugh. It also comes with brunch and two highly sought after collectables. Thank you, Lego.

Hasbro had a bunch of little things to hand out (all coming soon products) but the one that looks to have the most promise is Bot Shots. It is a new game by Hasbro featuring transformable Transformers. Take the game rock-paper-scissors and then have two Transformers battle it out. I love the concept and have a feeling it will work. The kids and their parents should get a blast out of it.

Remember the old saying, its NERF or its nothing? Well the NERF JOLT from the N-Strike line is everything. It looks like a simple pop gun, but it packs a wallop. The JOLT is tons of fun. I was fortunate enough to get two of these at Toy Fair. Since I got back, I went out and picked up a box NERF Dart Tag Darts (they even whistle) to add to my merriment.

The S.L.U.G. zombies look like some demented candy of lime gummy slugs (=

Did Matty Collector put out a Rio Blast MoTU figure yet? He was my favorite grownig up. Well, him and the He-Man with the spinning battle damage chest.

I wish they would bring back the MUSCLE MEN. I must have had hundreds of those little flesh colored things. Probably still have some buried at my folks somewhere.

RioBlast? He was the quickdraw cowboy right? Nope. MattyCollector has them all listed on their site. Check out my MattyCollector 2012 Toy Fair releases article. There are a ton of new pics.
