Toy Fair Revisited - Hasbro
By: Scott ColluraDate: Wednesday, April 17, 2002
We've already been treated to a glimpse of Hasbro's STAR WARS: EPISODE II ATTACK OF THE CLONES toys thanks to the four Sneak Preview figures that were released a few weeks ago (did you get your Jango?). But the big day is coming next Tuesday, April 23, when the complete line is officially released.
As any STAR WARS fan worth his weight in credits knows, half the joy of Lucas' universe is in the toys. So while the movie is still a month away, this is a momentous occasion! Fortunately, your intrepid CINESCAPE team was able to get a look at what Hasbro has in mind this year at the 2002 Toy Fair in New York. The 3 ¾" figures that we know and love are still the cornerstone of the line, though they look to feature significantly improved sculpts over previous products such as the PHANTOM MENACE figures.
Gone from those toys of three years ago is the disastrous COMMTech technology, though new, cooler gimmicks include "force" and "flipping" action features (thanks to embedded magnets in the toys). There's plenty of other stuff to gawk at and spend your money on here, such as the 18" interactive R2-D2 that obeys your commands, and the new line of STAR WARS UNLEASHED 8" sculptures.
Do yourself a favor: check out the following photos, and then go set up camp outside your local Toys "R" Us stat or you might miss out!
