The official tracklisting of the European version of the brand new STYX symphonic live album recorded in May 2006 with the Contemporary Youth Orchestra of Cleveland has been finally revealed:

1. Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)
2. One With Everything
3. It Don't Make Sense (You Can't Make Peace)
4. Everything All the Time
5. I Am the Walrus
6. Just Be (studio version)
7. Fooling Yourself (the Angry Young Man)
8. Boat On the River
9. I Don't Need No Doctor
10. Crystal Ball
11. Too Much Time On My Hands
12. Miss America
13. Renegade

Styx became synonymous with the symphonic orchestrated rock format that was to later termed 'Pomp Rock.' Styx's status was such that they hold the record for being the first ever band to gain triple platinum honors with four consecutive album releases, 'The Grand Illusion', 'Pieces Of Eight', 'Cornerstone' and the no.1 'Paradise Theatre'.

The band's cooperation with Contemporary Youth Orchestra (made up of 115 musicians aged between 15 and 19 years old) started last year when the band was asked to join the Orchestra for a concert. Having in the past worked with solo artists, including Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, Ray Manzarek, Graham Nash and Jon Anderson, it was not the first time for them to be involved with Rock music, but was definitely their premiere with a full scaled band !

Styx has performed only one other time with a symphony and "while it was a wonderful experience, we had not been inclined to revisit it until we heard that the members of this particular orchestra were all between the ages of thirteen and nineteen" says Styx singer and guitar player Tommy Shaw, adding "From the very beginning, the enthusiasm has been extraordinary. Their grasp of our music, their flexibility and willingness to go far beyond what any of us imagined, has been incredible. Director Liza Grossman is to be hailed as the heroine extraordinaire tonight, for her steady guidance and the unflinching belief in the members of CYO."

On May 25, 2006 then STYX took the stage in Cleveland for a new venture accompanied by the 115 piece Contemporary Youth Orchestra and a 60 member chorus. With a setlist that combined some of the band's classics, 2 brand new songs and cover versions that appeared on the "Big Bang Theory" this was a truly unique event.

The STYX and C.Y.O. album shall be released in Europe on Frontiers Records on November 10th 2006.

STYX was one of my favorite bands. I grew up listening to STYX music, especially their 4 triple platinum albums (and the platinum "Kilroy Was Here" album, too). While they're still ok to listen to (I've seen them twice in concert in the last few years), it's not STYX anymore since Dennis DeYoung (lead singer and keyboard player) left the band. STYX is more the Tommy Shaw band now. Look at the song listings above; where are the band's signature songs (Come Sail Away, Babe, Grand Illusion, Best of Times, etc...)? It's a shame the egos of the bandmemebers got in the way and broke up a truly classic American rock band. I saw STYX with Dennis back in 2001 and they still put on one hell of a show. I wish STYX and Dennis could get over themselves and reform the one true STYX.

Well this does not contain any of their top hits: Babe, the Best of Times, Mr Roboto, Show Me the Way, Lady, Don't Let It End and Come Sail Away instead opting for it's second tier hits Too Much Time On My Hands, Renegade, Blue Collar Man and Fooling Yourself. The North American release has A Criminal Mind instead of I Don't Need No Doctor. Everything All the Time and Just Be are the new tunes. The DVD has all of these plus both A Criminal Mind and I Don't Need No Doctor and also Lorelei (another second tier hit) and a medley that contains Put Me On, Mademoiselle, Heavy Metal Poisoning, Midnight Ride, Sing For the Day, Shooz, Queen of Spades, Great White Hope, Half Penny Two Penny, Borrowed Time, Rockin' the Paradise, Lights and Man in the Wilderness. Sing for the Day, Mademoiselle and Borrowed Time were some of their third tier hits. There are also two bonus tracks here: Ring the Bells and All I Want. The CD is due to be released in North America on November 7th, the DVD on November 21st. They plan to broadcast it on HDNet on November 19th and also on PBS in November as well.

Dennis is the owner of Mr Robto and all of other great songs this is nothing more than The Tommy Shaw Band. I used to love him but the treatment of Dennis De Young has really made most of the real fans of STYX sick of this crap!! Bring back the only reason to ever see STYX or by an album !! U TOOLS!!

dax0761 - I went to see Dennis' show. He does a lot of STYX numbers and still sounds terrific. I always enjoyed his solo work, especially the song "Harry's Hands."
