Trailer for Romero's DIARY OF THE DEAD

By: Jarrod Sarafin, News Editor
Date: Saturday, January 12, 2008

A trailer has finally arrived online for Diary of the Dead, thanks to zombie master George A. Romero and Myspace Video. There's also a contest going, which he'll explain in the video clip below. The film has already premiered at many festivals last fall and will be showing at the Sundance Festival this month. Romero penned the screenplay and shot the film with an indie style last seen with his early zombie trilogy. The film stars Shawn Roberts, Megan Park, Joshua Close, Michelle Morgan, Chris Violette and Tatiana Maslany.

Plot Summary: With a story mixing elements of "The Blair Witch Project" and the long-running "Dead" series, the film will follow a group of college students shooting a horror movie in the woods who stumble upon a real zombie uprising. When the onslaught begins, they seize the moment as any good film students would, capturing the undead in a "cinema verite" style that causes more than the usual production headaches.

Diary of the Dead will hit theaters Feb. 15, 2008.

Diary is such a girly word. Hey guys, lets go see "Diary of the--" and then I would be cut off for daring to suggest a chick flick. I guess everything has to end with "of the Dead".
Has my interest. All zombie movies do.

It's from the grandfather of the genre. How can you not be intersted. I wish it was an R rated clip to get a better look at the gore fest.
I guess from now on to cut back on a film's budget we're going to have to get used to the handheld camera and all the shaking that comes with it.
Like to see someone that posts here win that contest. I know there are some here that aspire to be in the industry. Good luck if anyone here enters.

Who cares if it is from the inventor of the genera...These zombie movies suck anyways, the exception being some of the early originals ones, but the ones that have come out in these last few years, who cares...If done intelligently like (I Am Legend) then I am there but I don't think you can really consider I Am Legend a Zombie movie...

I for one am looking forward to this. Romero invented this stuff and I think each of his zombie films were done intelligently. Yes. Even Land. This'll be great.
I haven't really thought of I Am Legend as a zombie flick. Mutant flick?

I sure hope this shaky camera crap isn't going to become the norm. The last few Bourne movies made a ton of money doing it that way and I hear Cloverfields the same way. Now you throw this in there...I just can't stand the shaky cameras. Only reason why this doesn't interest me. Lets face it guys, you watch a Zombie movie you aren't going to get the next Gone With The Wind. I only hope to be entertained. The Zack Snyder remake of Dawn of the Dead I thought was very entertaining. That's all you can hope for.

The shaky cam has been around for quite some time and the only film that pulled it off successfuly was Blar Witch.

I am there. I like Romero's movies, not only his Dead Series but the other ones that seem to get ignored especially when you have a series like the Dead.

Honestly, it did not look all that shaky compared to Cloverfield trailer. And I am hoping that since these are film students and not some drunk guy with a camer, that they will be able to operate it with a little bit more care.

I agree swansong. This doesn't look anywhere near a shaky as Cloverfiled does. Shaky-cam didn't even occur to me with regards to this trailer until Hobbs mentioned it.

Has George Romero ever done any movies other than zombie flicks? I'd like to see him do something different.
