In the wake of the success of 'The Dark Knight' directors seem to be flocking to the IMAX format according to an article in Variety.
Topping the list is Michael Bay's 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen', which is said to have at least three action scenes blocked out for the gigundo-screen treatment.
In the talking phase, Jon Favreau is hoping to use the format for 'Iron Man 2', and D. J. Caruso has said he'll film parts of 'Y: The Last Man' in IMAX.
The article also says that while filmmakers prefer the high-quality that the IMAX cameras provide, the doing an entire feature with them is still prohibitive due to the size of the cameras and the expense of converting to 35mm for traditional theaters.
'The Dark Knight' demonstrated that doing small segments in the big format pays off. The IMAX run of the movie generated $60 million in ticket sales, more than 10% of the films domestic gross.
Like the Batman film 'Transformers 2' will appear in IMAX theaters simultaneously to its theatrical run.
