Took the kids to Ice Age 3 in 3D. I'm not much of a fan of the franchise, but the kids loved it and that's all that matters to me. I really like the 3D technology with these animated movies. It's not just about things flying at your face, but the depth of the images on the screen.

Public Enemies...Great performances by the leads Depp and Bale. Marion Cotillard just lights up the screen with her eyes and smile. The secondary characters were great, too; Billy Crudup especially and Stephen Lang. I didn't even recognize Channing Tatum as Pretty Boy Floyd. Here's my problem with the film...the digital recording looks just plain bad at times. When the lighting is severe, light to dark and dark to light, it looks like some bad B movie footage on Cinemax. And the whole handheld camera thing...too damn shaky. I'm sorry, but if I want to watch footage that bad I'll watch some made for TV SciFi channel movie. And, what is it with Michael Mann and the closeups. It was too much. For his next movie he'll probably be looking inside the actors' nostrils. For me, the poor tonal quality, the crappy shaky camera action and the closer-than-close closeups really detracted from a good film that had excellent perforamnces from the entire cast. I think a Brian DePalma Untouchables look/feel would have served the film better.

With Bruno hitting the theaters this weekend, I'm heading to the ballpark for a game with the kids this weekend.

My wife and I saw The Proposal this week and we both liked it.  Reynolds had some good lines.  I'd say if Ice Age has the same take and less theaters it's number one to me.  Though no way could they both be exactly the same.  There are no ties.  Someone has to win.

I'd say the hangover is the big surprise this summer.  Huge money for a comedy.

You're right almostunbiased. The Hangover came out of nowhere to pull great numbers. The "big" comedies of the summer so far (Land of the Lost and Year One) can only wish they had that kind of success. I'm wondering how Funny People is going to do; I've seen the trailers and so far I'm not impressed.

There is no way that they should have released "Public Enemies" this weekend.  I was a very good movie, but wasn't going to come close to Transformers or Ice Age.

Why is Up bombing internationally?  Has it not gotten widespread release in other nations yet?  Or do non-americans just hate crazy, mad-cap adventure in south america?

Public enemies is going to be fine over all I bet, it will probably have better legs for Blu Ray/DVD.  It's not like it needs a sequel or anything so who cares how much it makes really.  The only reason to root for a movie to do good is for a sequel.

TF2 has nothing to stop it next week it looks like.

I saw Public Enemies this weekend and its definitely up there for me in the top 5 this summer. I really like Mann's style of shooting and Depp was  great. I'm a sucker for these types of crime/gangster movies anyway. My sister said she thought it was boring but I totally disagree. And there something really cool about those Tommy Guns. It wasn't Heat, but it was still damn good.

They finally showed the GIJOE trailer on the big screen and I still have my doubts but I suppose its not as terrible looking as I thought. I'll check it out.

I'm interested in seeing how Bruno will do in the middle of this summer battle. Does he have what it takes to take down the giant robots?

I'm guessing no but will make a good dent in the side of primes ass. I know in Canada and Europe it will blow up and take the number one spot but I wonder how the less liberal states will enjoy Bruno? Maybe they should have a disclaimer saying the movie does not support prop 8 and loves texas lol

Harry Potter will take #1 from Transformers, but it won't make as much money I'll bet.
