TRANSFORMERS Has All Time Tuesday Record

By: Jarrod Sarafin, News Editor
Date: Wednesday, July 04, 2007

One record has fallen by the sheer weight of TRANSFORMERS. How many more will fall during this July 4th holiday week? Last year, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST broke a slew of box office records only to drop most of those to SPIDER-MAN 3 this May. Now, it looks like the Autobots are setting everything up for a new Record holder in as many categories.

TRANSFORMERS pulled in 27.4 million on its first day of wide release (4,011 Theaters)  on Tuesday July 3. This has its total domestic take from yesterday and Monday's "preview" screenings at around 36.3 million so far. It also has its worldwide total at 72.5 million because it grabbed up 36.2 million in foreign totals on Monday alone. Who was the last Tuesday record holder? DEAD MAN'S CHEST  on Tuesday July 11.

These are the Records broken so far in the year of 2007:

Records by Spider-Man 3:

Opening Weekend Record---151.1 million
Opening Worldwide Record—381.6 million
Opening Foreign Record---230.5 million
Summer Season Opening---151.1 million
May Opening Weekend---151.1 million
Single Day Box Office---59.8 million
Friday Box Office Record---59.8 million
Saturday Box Office Record—51.3 million
Sunday Box Office Record---39.9 million
4 Day Box Office Record---161.4 million
3 Day Box Office Record---151.1 million
Widest Theater Release---4,252
Fastest to 100 Million----It took 2 days

Two other movie releases of 2007 broke records this year. 300 pulled in the largest March opening taking in 70.8 million on its debut. Ghost Rider pulled in the largest President’s Day opening taking in 52.0 million on its debut weekend.

Of course it would break it, the movie ran for 24 hours straight.

How many movies open on Tuesday?
Ever before?
Isn't it kind of obvious it would win that?
Aren't I asking a lot of questions?

And now you have to ask, how many people GO to a movie on a Tuesday? Not many, so if this is any indication, TRANSFORMERS will rake it a lot more this weekend!

And the more it makes, the better chance we will have of seeing a sequel! WOOT I am a so stoked, I have to see it again! :-)

Good point, Lazerman.
I loved how everyone reacted when they saw the robots. It seemed realistic. They could barely talk and just acted dumfounded. I heard Bay told them to just pretend they saw a robot for the first time and a lot of that dialouge was made up on the spot.

It's also worth noting that Pirates 2 opened on a Friday, so it was already in its fifth day of release by the time it got to Tuesday. The odd scheduling is going to make it difficult to find meaningful comparisons. But hey, a record is a record.

If the Monday "sneak preview" and total Tuesday grosses were combined into one mega-opening day, that would put it at the #11 all-time biggest opener, nudging out Return of the King. But like I said, it's tough to make comparisons when Transformers has more of an opening week than an opening weekend - the total box office will be spread over seven days instead of three.

Also, Transformers will likely only hold the Tuesday record for a week - Harry Potter goes into its wide release next Tuesday.

Oh, c'mon. It's friggin' summer. All the kids can go see the movie, easily. Transformers will probably have a huge weekend. Breaking the Tuesday record ain't that impressive, though.

It starts on a Tuesday too. Crazy!
Are you sure I have WED on my calender? (yes I mark openings on my calender, I'm a geek I guess)

of course this will break records. i havent read very postive reviews about this film though. one review is quoted in saying "it is one overly long, stupid GMC ad." to which i agree to an extent. But there is NO doubt in my mind this will take the cake for the summer, and many more to come

Almost,

I believe Potter does open on Wednsday the 11th.
