TRANSFORMERS Casting News ... AGAIN!

By: Karl Schneider
Date: Tuesday, May 09, 2006

Transformers seems to be adding cast members day by day. Continuing with that trend ... Bernie Mac and Josh Duhamel have signed on board to play roles in Michael Bay's Transformers: The Movie

Mac will be playing a human salesman in the film.

The films budget is still north of $100 million. It is still based on the comic book, cartoon and toy line of the 80's. The cast still stars Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Megan Fox, John Turturro, John Robinson and Travis Van Winkle ... well ... until tomorrow.

I'm glad the film seems to be following the 80's format, but is it just me or do they need to cast guys like Peter Cullan and Frank Welker no matter what memos come back from the studio. In my mind, Peter Cullen is Optimus Prime and Frank Welker is Megatron no questions answered.

Frank Welker was Megatron? I didnt know that. Wich Megatron do you think we'll get? The original handgun version or this ..umm whatever he is now a tank? god forbid we give kids another toy gun to play with.

transformers... more than meets the eye

i can't wait to see this... although I'm a little trepidated by all the fond memories of my childhood. will they be crushed or reinforced?

I'm just wondering when they're going to get the ball rolling on the remake of GI Joe. Dude, snake eyes would be cool. Hell!!! You could give him his own movie.

The last I had read from the production team, as much as that means anything, was that they were going with the "tank" Megatron. And honestly...they really sort of have to don't they? I mean how would the "handgun" version work? Even in the cartoon I don't ever remember seeing him in "handgun" form very often, as if even then, in an animated form they couldn't figure out much to do with it.

As for voices, well I will hope for the best but you just know they'll pull something like....

Coming this Summer... TRANSFORMERS!!!

Featuring Jim Carrey playing Ace Ventura as Optiums Prime....

Featuring Chris Tucker playing that guy from The Fifth Element as Megatron...

And Featuring Robin Williams as Soundwave...who now "changes stations" 72 times in every scene he's in....

darthobsidian... you're right. I didn't think about the handgun thing. plus, he's like a 30 ft robot that shrank down to a gun so that his whining 2nd-in-command (was it starscream?) could use it. it could work as a gun but it depends on how the story used it. a tank is definitely easier to write for.

Well, I know that Chris Latta, the voice of Starscream and Cobra Commander as I grew up, passed away in '94. That's going to be near impossible to replace.

I've also heard that the robot designers on the movie are considering changing Soundwave to a helicopter.

I don't think this movie will be all that good, but with Bay at the helm, it'll be one helluva show for the eyes!

• May 09, 2006, 11:23am •
maybe, after this film, Bay can do the G.I. Joe movie; he's the perfect director for that kind of film.

I'll hold out for the Beanie Babies movie.
