TRANSFORMERS Debuts Around the Clock

By: Jarrod Sarafin, News Editor
Date: Monday, June 25, 2007

We already knew that Transformers was getting pushed ahead of its release date to Monday, July 2nd. This gives Pixar's Ratatouille only 3 days and Live Free or Die Hard 5 days (Six if you include midnight showings). It seems to go beyond that for Transformers though. They're literally invading theaters planning to overrun the box office competition.

A source inside the industry has informed me that while Transformers opening on Monday gives it a sizeable advantage over its competition, it also has something else going for them.He goes on to tell me that Paramount & Dreamwork's film will also have 24 hour straight showings in the top 10 movie theaters in the country for 2 days straight.

Yes, that's correct. The top 10 theaters in the country will be showing Transformers around the clock for 2 days straight from Monday thru Wednesday. 48 straight hours of coverage on all their screens.

This is going to be an invasion, Maniacs.

Wow. That should change things a little bit. I probably shouldn't have put it so low on my top ten.
I can't wait for this movie.

Sounds to me like the movie is rubbish and they're desperately trying to rake in as much cash as possible before word-of-mouth hits them.

24 hours straight!? Now that is just unnecessary. Who wants to see Transformers at 3 o clock in the morning?Think about the people working at those theaters. They must really be pissed.

On another note, I think it's sad that opening box office numbers have become so important that they've resorted to things like this. What ever happened to word of mouth or letting people find the movie instead of being force fed for 48 hrs straight?

Judging by the film clips and commercials I've seen of Transformers, this movie was intentionally patterned... from start to finish, after Back To The Future, Terminator 2 and Aliens in regard to its feel...and all packaged into one film.

I don't know if it will be good or not, it hasn't had very much real competition in terms of quality from the other bloated high concept action and fantasy blockbusters that have already come and gone this summer so there isn't any point of comparison as yet!!!

I hate is so much when these article writers just say "Monday."

I don’t care what day it comes out on ... I want to know the actual date of the freaking think. I am sitting here thinking "this Monday, the Monday after that, the Monday before the 4th of July … WHAT?" just start putting dates on here instead of days and I will be fine.'

as for this movie, I know it will probably be a bad movie yet make lots of money. Michael bay never sets his standards any higher than an explosion or cool FX. he doesn’t give a shit about story or character, and its a shame that TRANSFORMERS (something that has a lot of both the above mentioned quality's) has to be put thru such incapable hands as Michael freaking bay.

I agree about Michael Bay, but hopefully Steven Spielberg and Tom DeSanto put some real soul into the script to balance out the heartless techno nihilism and atheistic coldness of Michael Bay!!!

He too often seems emotionally vacant in respect to his Stepford Wives approach to directing films. I sometimes feel like a semi robotic and emotionally crippled sociopath is behind the camera of Bay's films, instead of a well rounded human being!!!

24 striaght hours? DAMN that's cool. I hope a theater near me is doing that!

I once went to a 3 am show of Freddy Vs Jason, but the theater was closed. Turns out the newspaper misprinted the time. The parking lot was full of pissed off people.

There were a lot more pissed off people once they finished watching "Freddy Vs. Jason" as well.

Pissed that it was over, maybe. That movie was great.
