TRANSFORMERS Opens to 8.1 Mil

TRANSFORMERS actually "officially" opens up in its widest release today but that didn't stop them from taking the top spot in the box office on Monday night. They began their screenings on around 3,000 screens last night at 8:00 pm (4,000+ screens begin today) and they still managed to take the top spot on Monday.

The Autobats doing battle against the Decepticons in TRANSFORMERS took in an early 8.1 million from 8:00 pm onward for Dreamworks and Paramount studios.

Landing in second place for Monday was Pixar's RATATOUILLE clocking in at a respectable 7.5 million in box office cash. Monday's pulled makes their total sit at around 54.5 million for its 4 day gross.

Following right behind in third place is Fox's LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD grabbing up 4.2 million on Monday's showings. This puts its 6 day total at 52.6 million in receipts.

Now, the question begins on just how much TRANSFORMERS takes in over the 6 day opening it has set itself up for. Today's numbers will be the big factor when looking at the overall picture for its success. Usually, familys tend to stay out of the movies on July 4th itself (opting for barbecues, the beach, etc)...but movies tend to do very well around the July 4th days (before and after). Take last year's PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST. It had the biggest opening in history until SPIDER-MAN 3 beat it on May 4th. The industry insiders are now asking...Does TRANSFORMERS beat out Spidey 3 just 8 weeks after it grabbed up all those records? That's the question and we won't know until the numbers come in for today's box office's totals.

Transformers will take the top spot this summer. I saw the late show last night and it was f'n awesome. The whole audience was really into it. Bring on a sequel.

I saw it last night.

There's 2 hrs of my life I'll never get back.

John Turturro's performance is laughably bad.

I saw it today. Dialogue was laughable. Story lame. Action unfocused and too zoomed in to see what was happening half the time. It's a FUN movie, but I think it was made more for children. Megan Fox is incredibly attractive and Shia does a nice job. Other acting was just plain silly. I left the theater confused and not because I didn't understand the simple plot, but because I wondered why they made the movie the way they did. It could have been done so cool, and it came off like, well like a cartoon. If that's all you're looking for you'll love this movie.

Personally I loved the movie though I do agree that John Turturro's character and the whole Hoover dam scene should have been cut.

Even with those scenes bringing it down somewhat, I had a blast during the movie! Bumblebee rocked the cashbah and made the time enjoyable.

Still, that's 4 Maniac dissents Ive seen so far....Muchdrama, Almost unbiassed, mlaforcer and Merin.

Bahh you 4 Maniacs who I love reading...

I still liked it. :)

Opinions opinions...We can always disagree though. lol

CaptMathMan....I addressed your legitimate question about the Box Office Predictions in the talkback section of Sunday's Box Office Report....Go check it out when you get a chance.

Merin, don't be hard on yourself about "being wrong" with the predictions.

I don't think ANY of us knew what Transformers was going to do as far as competition against Shrek 3, Spidey 3 and Pirates 3.

AND your guesses domestically on Spidey 3 and Shrek 3 seem to be "spot on". Very good predictions, Merin.

Although I think this movie will be big, it would be smart to await the box office figures for today and tomorrow. Strange though, I haven't seen any news, or fan reports on sold-out performances...or even lines that stretch around the block (not one report on either account)--as they would be a strong indicator that this film in on track to blow box office records!!!

Still, ultimately, the big tests will be on Friday and Saturday night!!!

Muchdrama....Are you kidding me? That movie was one of the best I've seen in a very long time. You must be like 16 and have never watched the cartoon because that movie was sweet. Go watch Brokeback Mountain with all your gay friends.

THE ONLY REASON SONYMAN 3 made a box office record is due to inflation of prices. Considering in 82 the most you would pay to see ET is $4 and now even Matinees are avg. at least $8 the box office record is a poor comparison.

OK MEGATRON WAS BURIED ON EARTH LIKE THE THING IN THE 30'S WHILE TRYING TO FIND THE ALL SPARK

FRENZY IS NOW SOUNDWAVE

AND SHIA LEBOUF STABS MEGATRON WITH THE ALLSPARK SO I GUES SHIA LEBOUF IS NOW RADIATION PROOF

AND THEN MEGATRON IS AGAI N BURIED BELOW THE EARTHS SURFACE STRANDING

EVERYONE IS SIGNED FOR 3 MOVIES AND IM SURPRISED TYRESE DIDNT MAKE A SONG CALLED i like dem robots--he couldnt play a black corpse in a morgue, ralphies red ryder has more range.

ALSO CHEVY MADE TOO MUCH MONEY FOR THERE TO NOT BE A SEQUAL

Caught the movie today at 12:00 pm and I had a blast watching the film. I didn't go expecting the best film of the year but I expected to watch an entertaining movie for 2 hours. That's exactly what I got. I was never bored during the film and seeing Bumblebee(my fave in movie) and Optimus Prime transform for the first time was excellent. I wish Megatron would've been done different and that the moveie at least acknowledged that Starscream is a fairly important Decepticon. In the movie he's just another from the bunch. I agree Turturro's character was lame and I also didn't like the small decepticon robot, the dog peeing joke and a couple of other things but like I said it was worth the $ i paid to watch it.
Lot of people in the theather seemed to enjoyed it and were responding to jokes even though some were lame. I think Shia did a good job and I can't wait to see him in Indy 4.

*spolier*
I dont know if this is a spoiler or not but does it mean we are getting Galvatron for a sequel?

almostunbiased • Jul 03, 2007, 04:37pm •
SONYMANswallows, Hey careful with the Spoilers. Don't give away plot and story around here. Or people will hate you even more than they do for you being such an ass.
