Wasn't this movie called "Vanishing Point" in the 70's?

Newcomer Andrew Knauer has sold his spec script 'Last Stand' to Lionsgate, says The Hollywood Reporter. The studio snagged the rights for Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, producer of recent mega-movies like 'Transformers' and 'G.I.Joe'.
The story is a classic western showdown, filtered through the fast-car movie prism. A drug cartel kingpin breaks free from a courthouse, jumps into a Gumpert Apollo and races for the border. The only thing standing between the drug lord and his freedom is a border-town sheriff and his inexperienced staff.
Knauer is a former intern at Lionsgate who moved on to a role as an assistant at Media Talent group. 'Last Stand' is apparently Knauer's first script.
Di Bonaventura is currently pushing forward with the comic adaptation 'Red'.
boring.... boring.... better have a lot of cars flying in the air. Usually that would tickle my fancy but even if that was the case, this would still be.... boring

I thought we were talking Stephen King's The Last Stand. Sounds like it has possibilities
Where's Jarrod, on vacation?
Stephen King's book is called "The Stand"...No "Last"....even though it was...sort of....
Sure enough, hey I only read it about 15years ago, I'm surprised I still remeber who wrote it :)
Funny how many of the posters here are always asking why young writers aren't given their shot in Hollywood since they could come up with new, fresh ideas. Well here's a young writer given his first shot, and the storyline sounds more stale than 3-month old bread. Pass.
