"Transformers" Rated R?

By: Karl Schneider
Date: Friday, March 09, 2007

According to Shia LaBeouf in an interview with IESB.net, when the first cut of the upcoming film Transformers was sent to the MPAA, it came back with a rating of R.

LaBoeuf said that the film was given the rating because of intense action and violence, but that Spielberg went to the MPAA, argued the rating, and was able to get it knocked down to PG-13.

You can read their story here.

KJ's Take:  Hell yea.  This is seriously my #1 most anticipated film of the Summer.  Oh golly gee it's a Michael Bay film, oh blimey he can't direct, it won't be any good by golly ... Shut your trapper!

Autobots, Transform and roll out!!!

Ahhhhhh....the creation of enemies. You do it well. Actually.....so do I. I am excited about this film as well. Can't wait.

I was never a Transformer fan, but I love Michale Bay movies (yeah, I know a lot of his movies aren't going to win many awards, but they're great entertainment) and look forward to seeing this. This film needs a PG-13 rating. An R rating would have hurt the box office a lot. A PG-13 movie means that the kids and the older fans of the various series will see it.

I can take or leave Michael Bay, he alone won't be the deciding factor for me.

That said, the R will be gone - Spielberg needs to be "kiddie friendly" and the toy manufacturers will be throwing fits.

We need to get rid of the MPAA... they have no idea what they're doing. This is no longer 1970.

This is THE movie for the summer. I love Spider-Man, but we've had 2 great movies. This is different. Nest to Spidey, my favorite character as a kid was Optimus Prime. I haven't been this excited about a movie in years. Bay can do action like no one else. He can also do character developement enough to make you care about what happens (The Island). Put that together & this movie will be Awsome!

"Spielberg went to the MPAA, argued the rating"

Pretty cool to have him in your corner since he can do anything he wants!

A bit or irony since Temple of Doom's violence was the reason that the pg13 rating was created in the first place.
