The summer hit TRANSFORMERS rolled out to a stellar box office run, a stint which has Paramount/Dreamworks and the same crew (Spielberg, Bay, LaBeouf & Co.) prepping the production of the sequel which hits theaters June 26,2009. Well, the DVD release of the film wasted no time in setting more records as it hit the market this past week, says the Hollywood Reporter. While the studios are dealing with poor box office performances for the past week, the trade is reporting the DVD release of the autobots injected some momentum into the home entertainment industry by selling over 8.3 million copies in the first six days, a new record for 2007.

Other DVD records:

-4.5 million units sold in the first day of release.

-Over 100,000 HD-DVDs sold in the first day of release.

-Over 190,000 HD-DVDs sold in the first week of release.

“The performance of the ‘Transformers’ DVD and HD DVD has demonstrated the phenomenal success of this global franchise,” said Kelley Avery, president of worldwide home entertainment for Paramount Pictures. “We’re happy to be kicking off the fourth quarter with a title that clearly shows home entertainment releases are still an event that drives consumers into stores--which is a win for both content providers and retailers.”

It would have sold at least twice as many Blurays if Paramount hadn't made that boneheaded decision.

Yes, that 150 mil bribe Paramount took from HD-DVD should expire in 16 months.

What is it with Blu-Ray lovers? HD-DVD holds less Storage. Big whoop! Like We really need the extra 10-15 Gigs? Seriously, when shows start coming out on the High Def Disks, do you think they are gonna put all the episodes on one disk and then put the extra on another? no, they are going to have as many disks as possible.

The Quality is the SAME! Frankly, I like HD-DVD. I am sick of Sony and their dumb ideas (PS3 comes to mind) Blu-Ray is being forced on us. At Least HD-DVD is not making us buy it with their most popular console. I am sorry, but HD-DVD player costs 200 at Wal-freaking-mart, and even less on ebay. Blu-Ray Players cost 400+ bucks! That is DOUBLE the damn price. I will be investing in a player that plays both as I am sick of the damn disk wars. I hope Sony goes down as they do not deserve to when this war.

As much as I hate transformers, I am glad they are getting people to buy the HD-DVD. Remember, the cheapest player will when this war. Look at the Wii.

This movie should continue to be big throughout the holidays. Now, I wonder how Planet Terror is doing, having been strategically released in the same time frame as Transformers, hoping to leach off of Transformers' sales by way of its purchasers--the theory being, if they pick-up one genre film, they might also pick-up another similar release at the same time.

How the hell is Blu-Ray being forced on you? No one is putting a gun to your head to buy it. I just think that they should at the very least give people the option to buy it, rather than hold a monopoly on certain movies. That`s just plain effed up.

Guys... it is a crooked "we want your money" buisness... just look at some recent DVD releases. Has anyone noticed how rough the quality has been lately... take TMNT as the perfect example... I bought that disc for my kids(uh yeah, that's it) and the disc starts with a huge ad for HD DVD which is pretty sharp, then we start watching Turtles, and the picture quality is ok, but grainy and lacking sharpness, which none of there old Dreamworks or Pixar films did, in fact they look flippin SHWEEEEEET on my player. It's like they are trying to convince me that DVD's always sucked. I know I know, conspiracy theory... but if you get the chance, check it out.

Actually Madmanic, I've noticed that too. Just wait til Lucas releases the Star Wars super HD edition collection. A must have for every collector. Anyway it's nice to know that HD DVD players are coming down in price. That means hopefully I could get one within the next year or 2. I guess we'll see.

Ten years from now, almost everything will be downloaded. From music to movies to games to books. Kids in the future will ask their parents why they have all this junk on their shelves collecting dust when all of that media can fit into an iPod/Zune device.

Didn't catch this when it came out. Bought a copy and watched it last night, and I have to say, I was NOT impressed with this movie what so ever. Shia Lebouf played the same kid from disturbia, John Tuturro and Anthony Anderson were annoying in their cameos, and the fight sequences were lacking. This did not live up to the hype!

Honestly from what I have seen of the next gen DVDs they are cool, but I will wait to buy one until both the movies and the players go down in price simply because the quality is good, but we are not talking about the same jump in quality as going from VHS to DVD. So I will wait.

Now about Transformers, I was watching for the second time the other day and was surprised how much I enjoyed it. It really is a pretty decent movie. It was not perfect and I hope the second will feature a littel stronger story, but for what it was Transformers was not bad. Hey it was way better than Masters of the Universe.
