TRANSFORMERS Title and Casting News

By: Karl Schneider
Date: Wednesday, May 24, 2006
Source: AI Press Day

At the American Idol press day, some news related to TRANSFORMERS happened to pop up. Glenn Morshower, who plays Aaron Pierce on 24, hinted that he has been added to the cast of the Michael Bay helmed film.

Morshower also mentioned that the film would be titled Prime Directive. This is not 'official' information and there is no word saying if this is a subtitle or a stand alone title. Considering the previously known title was TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE, it seems logical to assume that the movie will be titled: TRANSFORMERS: PRIME DIRECTIVE.

Will the name survive until release? We shall see.

So TRANSFORMERS has morphed into a STAR TREK film?

I don't see how getting a subtitle means it has any real comparison with a Star Trek movie. Like the Pirates of the Caribbean flicks, I have more of a hunch that they're planning more than one Transformers movie.

I think he is referring to the actual subtitle. The Prime Directive is a key device in the entire Star Trek series. The central idea behind the Federation.

No Comment....OhhhHmmmm

A "prime directive" is generally referring to one's primary function. It's used often in reference to computer programming. Also, Optimus Prime, etc. Prime Directive, as referenced here, has nothing to do with Star Trek. Read a book.

Why can't they save that name for a sequel or something?

Read a book? Watch a movie. codenamev was making a joke. The "prime directive" as someone pointed out is a large part of the Star Trek universe. Its what the Federation established as their, most important rule. We didn't need you to give us a definition of what a "prime directive" is. He was referencing Star Trek and Optimus Prime. I hate when dudes always try and ice skate uphill. Jackass!

actually, we can't necessarily assume that it's going to be the subtitle... The thought around other circles is that Prime Directive is being used the same way that Planet Ice was used for Titanic & Intimidation Game for Batman Begins. Basically a title that's being used so people don't necessarily know that it IS the Transformers movie.

Robocop had his prime directives too...I think. Well, if anything, using that in the Transformers title won't hurt it too much. I mean, no one goes to Star Trek movies anymore which is why the last one bombed, as did the Enterprise t.v. show. So, the trekkies that want to protest the title of the movie can stay home. They seem to be doing that anyway.

Wasn't there a Robocop movie... yeah, like Palmtree says.

AICN had a review of the script that sounded interesting. Not what I was expecting, but I remain anxious to see how this film turns out....
