TRANSFORMERS Toon Comes Back

Hey all you Cartoon Network fans. A new cartoon based on a classic is hitting the network on January courtesy of a partnership between the Cartoon Network and Hasbro. Yep, a new Transformers show will be back on the air by the beginning of next year. Both the toon network and Hasbro will co-produce the show.

There has been 8 other Transformers series on the air since the classic 1984-1987 series. The new show will focus on a different direction in the overall storyline and mythology aspect of the autobots. The headlining Autobots will be taking on evil humans (think superhero like characters), there will be more humor added into the mix and the Decepticons will show up but they won't be as frequent as before. Think a more diverse group of enemies if you will.

"We've used the basic Transformers and characters as a springboard, but then we're pretty much reimagining the whole thing," said Bob Higgins, senior vp programming and development at Cartoon Network. "What we're doing with it is basically turning it into a superheroes story. We're really excited that we're able to take this decades-old property and hopefully turn it into something that kids haven't seen or expected from a Transformers series before."

Good way to destroy a property. This has to be one of the worst ideas for a Transformers toon since Beast Machines.

Yeah, this idea sucks! Why the hell are they battling evil humans? And why add more humor? This is going to turn into freakin Pokemon! Wait to kill a property that would most likely be making its way back to mainstream success by way of a blockbuster movie.

If you think that's bad wait til you see the art for it....uuuuuhhhhhhhh..., I just threw up a little in my mouth thinking about it.

Beast Machines I didn't like, but Beast Wars rocked.... especially when they tied directly into the G1 series.

Turning it into pokemon is probably exactly what they're going for. They want something that will appeal to young kids, not us old G1 fans. The original cartoon while good, was aimed at selling toys. So too will be this one.

While this new series doesn't sound like my cup of tea, I understand the reasoning behind it. If it's really as bad as it sounds (from the average 10-year-old's perspective) then it will tank quickly and we won't be subjected to it for long. If the kids like it, then it will survive and breed new characters upon which to base new toys.

It is natural that things change, even though we often wish they wouldn't. It's a new series for new generation of kids. G1 worked for me and that's how I remember the franchise.

Expain this to me, someone...Why do cartoons always take so long to hit the screen when they're trying to piggyback off the success of a movie? This cartoon, the new Spider-Man that comes out next year, the Fantastic Four cartoon that hit months after the first movie. The cartoon studios know when the moviea are getting released, so why not launch a new cartoon closer to the release of the movie? Doesn't that make sense, or am I missing something?

Why don't they just show the classic cartoons again? Nothing on TV after that was any good. If they want to revive the series, they should go back to the basics of Autobots vs. Deceptions. Optimus Prime vs. Megatron. No Galvatron, Rodimus Prime, or that annoying female Autobot Arcee

Eh. Never a fan of the original, not interested in this retread.

Doesn't sound promising, but I probably wouldn't watch cartoon version they made. I'm pumped for the movie though.

Bad idea!!!! BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD idea!!!!

But then, we all said Ron Moore's re-imagining of Battlestar Galactica was going to suck too, didn't we?
