According to sidebar data printed by USA Today on a recent DVD sales article, 'Transformers' was the top-selling DVD of 2007. In spite of all the terrific performance by comics-based movies in 07, the only other top-10 disc was '300', which ranked #4.
In the world of High-Def discs '300' is king, enjoying the fact that it was released in both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray formats. 'Transformers' ranked #3 and 'Spider-Man 3' crawled up to the #9 spot.
Interesting to note: When Marvel became a full-on studio, Avi Arad had stated that part of the reason the films were so prosperous is that the characters enjoyed fan bases that would see the movie and buy all the variations of the DVDs. Basically the expectation was that Marvel Zombies would make for rabid DVD consumers. And yet, at year's end #1 films like 'Ghost Rider', 'Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer' and even the #1 movie of the year, 'Spider-Man 3' did not crack the top 10 in DVD sales.
