Following the successful IMAX releases of FANTASIA 2000 and the special edition BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, Disney Studios has announced it will release its next major animated feature, the sci-fi adventure TREASURE PLANET, in both normal and IMAX editions.

This move will be the first time a major film is released in both formats on the same day. PLANET is a semi-remake of TREASURE ISLAND, set in space.

Said Dick Cook, chairman of the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, "So much of the film takes place in space, and to be able to use that large-format canvas is a great fit."

The film will hit theaters November 27.
